"Lose my head to the chemical freeway Comin' up on overload" when you surrender yourself to a chemical experience, a common way of describing the point of no return is the come-up. we can extrapolate from the band name and implied speed (ie freeway) of the chemical in question being ecstasy, a drug that combines the feeling of empathy and bliss as well as being a stimulant. "In a mystic new dimension Purify and sanctify me" similar to psychedelics in sufficient doses ecstasy can be also be psychedelic at least to an extent, this can result in peripheral hallucination but more importantly the experience of one mind, multiple bodies. "What so I'm in no end game Move my piece right off the board" eventually an experience like this comes to an abrupt end but it can leave a lasting impact on what one thinks and feels about a lot of things "Losing sure is easy So I am no more" furthermore in sufficient doses the ego is at risk of dissolving like any other psychedelic, loss is a part of life and so is acceptance - it becomes easy when the ego dissolves. "But I'm not broken, in my dream I win In here I'm nothing, a Cosmic Castaway" whether a short or long journey you return to reality eventually, MDMA in particular is gaining renown for it's use in treating PTSD symptoms, you may indeed resurface as the feeling of a winner - in particular if within yourself you solved a personal dispute towards yourself. the "in here i'm nothing" is a reference to the brahman, the "self beyond self" of vedic spirituality or psychology. we will come back to this later. "In my head I'm a chemical dreamer Speed up to burn out mode" the user of above mentioned substance might carry an idealistic world view out of their experience that one wishes to experiene repeatedly, furthermore because it's also an amphetamine recreationally this can lead to substance abuse - again we deduct the substance in question through the implied "speed" of the experience "Comin' up in the 5th dimension Beautify don't crucify me, yeah" this might indicate an increase in dosage to counter-act the "loss of magic" a common theme when abusing sub-psychedelics, beautification of an experience like MDMA in particular happens a lot, despite the downsides it carries when heavily abused. "So I need no mind game poisoning my lonely soul Losing sure is easy so I am no more" when you let go of the normal social construction around you under the influence of an experience like ecstasy, all the subtle plays you make to progress your fake social status will wither away in an instant. post-experience behavior like that will generally be extremely obvious and having little patience for dealing with that can be extremely low. but unfortunately this is a reality of a lot of human behavior and thus can leave you feeling alienated from a huge portion of your social circle. maybe the subject in question has given up on reality and thus the ego dissolves once more "But I'm not broken, in my dream I win And I take over, 'cause I'm no loser" unlike an experience like alcohol completely losing inhibitions on a psychedelic substance is rare, and control is largely your own responsibility - but this could also indicate the reformation of the ego on the come-down of the experience "And I'm in and you're not, bad dreams don't stop But I'm all screwed up, a Cosmic Castaway A Cosmic Castaway, a Cosmic Castaway" we'll come briefly back to this idea of the self beyond the self here, as for the majority of your experience the ego is the observer and no one else can ever be at the control panel of your particular machinery. the bad dreams in this case being a reference to the unbreakable cycle of liberation from the ego and the inescapable reality of existence. "And I want but have not" even the most idealistic existence is going to be in a situation where one wants a certain something but is unable to achieve it "Bad dreams, lust thoughts" when the ego is fully in control through daily life, the bad dream is the dullness of existence, the thoughts being that which one is prevented from pursuing - love? success? etc. plausibly prevented by subjects blatant disregard of life "In here with no pain, you hurt me again" in the realm of the brahman, or self beyond the self there is no pain other than that which you allow the ego to bring with it. the argument is that the soul is inherently never in pain, only the ego. you in this case, actually being the singer talking to himself. "And I want but have none" the soul wants someone it can symbiosis with, but inherent to this philosophy no one can actually truly enter the mind, the battle between the feeling of alienation and the sense that everyone is one. "I should beat the alien But here I'm no one, a Cosmic Castaway" the "alien" in this case being a reference to resistance to outside help, the self beyond the self cannot receive visitors and therefore the self "should" beat the intruders. but there is a but, the ego has served as a shielding defense mechanism - help is finally accepted. the dissolution of the ego is not permanent, but the singer has finally realized when controlled subduing of the ego is in order. |
