Steely Dan – Your Gold Teeth Lyrics 5 years ago
@[loupgarous:35450] And according to a book cited in a 2009 WSJ article about the meaning of the mysterious Basie line "There's nothin' in Chicago that a monkey woman can do," a monkey woman is "An overly obliging or compliant female."

Steely Dan – Sign in Stranger Lyrics 5 years ago
I was surprised to hear on the live album "Alive in America," released some 20 years later, that the lyrics changed.

Specifically, this was removed:

Love or leave her, yellow fever
Sure, it's all in the game
And who are you
Just another scurvy brother

And replaced with this, which to me at least breaks the tie over whether this song is set merely in an exotic Earth-bound land or one in another star system:

Find your fortune, on this lucky star
The chances are good you will thrive
If you make it back alive
