Sounds like the high horse riders in aa and Christianity. Especially in aa. After two weeks of sobriety they start judging everyone else. Whatever keeps em clean I guess. |

Also this coincides with the the name of the album, 13th step. The 13th step is when a member that has done all of the 12 steps hits on another in recovery pretending to be a sponsor or mentor. Abusing their power in the group to manipulate a weaker member. |

I always thought this song was about being in a relationship with someone who is addicted to drugs. Trying to save them from themselves. And in the process dragging yourself down. I've been in that situation before and not only does everyone call you foolish for remaining in that relationship, but you eventually realize they were right that you were foolish to think that your love could trump their addiction. "drunk on ego" thinking that you can fix everything. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Another horse metaphor. Also on a side note, we have a lot of horse metaphors in our society. Must be from our wild west days. Here's another, beating a dead horse? OK I'm done. |
