Belle & Sebastian – I Fought in a War Lyrics 1 year ago
I have two vague interpretations: firstly that its about illness, i.e Stuart's CFS/ME, and how illness can isolate someone from their friends/family who move on without them.

"as if you're waiting for this letter to arrive/because I'll be here quite a while" and "beyond the bedsit infamy.." is the realisation that this is a lifelong illness and he will never 'catch up' with healthy friends who have moved on. He feels inferior to the "steady boy/man" due to his illness that makes him unstable.

The other (though I have very little to back this up) is about the experience of being politically radicalised and therefore leaving behind friends who haven't adopted that ideology and becoming isolated. "Looking for the enemy" a.k.a. having this new worldview that makes them see old friends as enemies. The "war" is more of an ideological war.

David Byrne & Fatboy Slim – Order 1081 Lyrics 2 years ago
I love Natalie\'s voice so much\n\nOrder 1081 was a law which declared martial law in the Philippines in 1986. It led to the president, Ferdinand Marcos, essentially becoming a dictator. I think the lyrics are probably ironic, especially the last verse.

10,000 Maniacs – Noah's Dove Lyrics 2 years ago
I interpret this as similar to Golden Boy or Hey Jack Kerouac - being the wife/mother of a highly respected/famous man ("chosen one" etc. ) and how women often provide most of the support in their lives and suffer the most emotionally. I think this song is about someone who is constantly putting himself in danger without thinking how it will affect other people (Natalie)

R.E.M. – World Leader Pretend Lyrics 3 years ago
Wow, R.E.M. wrote a song about my username!

I think it's largely about self hatred ('wage war on myself') and isolation from others using the wall as a metaphor for that isolation.

'I will be the one to knock it down' and 'reach out to me' - the narrator wants to break out of the isolation they've inflicted on themselves.

Manic Street Preachers – Enola/Alone Lyrics 3 years ago
'I walk in the grass..' describes the idyllic, almost surreal calmness after a disaster, but before the dust has fully settled or realisation set in, which is probably how Nicky felt after Richey's disappearance. This is possibly compared with the disaster of the atomic bomb dropped by Enola Gay.

'Please take me home' 'remember how good you looked' etc. - nostalgia for a time before the disaster/disappearance. 'Like memory it has disappeared' conveys the idea of loss, that nothing is permanent and those times are gone now.

'All I want to do is live, no matter how miserable it is' - beautiful, uplifting lyric about accepting loss and wanting to move onwards.

Manic Street Preachers – Enola/Alone Lyrics 3 years ago
It seems to be about the aftermath of a disaster (Richey's disappearance.) The title is possibly referring to Enola Gay, the plane which dropped the atomic bomb.
