Very cool song. The above comment mentions the refrain sounding like "Where's the away ground" but I always heard it as "Ray's a wanker"! Funny how our ears decipher song lyrics differently, like those mind tricks where some people see a duck, others a rabbit, or different colour combinations of the same dress. Even though I now know the line is "Carrie's got a boyfriend", I still hear "Ray's a wanker" so I postulate that Carrie's boyfriend was called Ray (and he was a wanker, according to the song writers: Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs... perhaps they fancied Carrie and were just jealous of this Raymond character) and that both lines were sung and merged into one in the production studio. Anyway, just one of the many great tracks on the criminally underrated album Foxbase Alpha. |
