The Beatles – Ticket to Ride Lyrics 5 years ago
In 1964 Lennon started his use of LSD and by 1965 was taking a lot of LSD and making others participate with or without their knowledge! His wife Cynthia didn't like the drug-taking and believed it to be the start of the end of their relationship!

John and Cynthia quite often were taking tours and holidays to different places at the same time and Lennon was known for his jealous tendencies and known to have assaulted Cyn as he called her on occasions!

Lennon bought a house called Kenwood in July 1964. It was a mock-Tudor-style house on three acres in Weybridge, where Cliff Richard already lived Lennon then spent twice the original £20,000 purchase price (equivalent to £408,300 in 2020) on renovations.

Although Cynthia enjoyed entertaining in the larger rooms, Lennon could usually be found in a small sunroom at the back of the house overlooking the swimming pool.

When she passed her driving test, Lennon serially bought her a white Mini, a gold Porsche, a red Ferrari, and a green Volkswagen Beetle, usually as surprises without consulting her first.

Now Kenwood was such a massive house that John could spend his time away from Cynthia and Julian and do his own thing which was take LSD and smoking canabis! I believe this song is written after a marital spat that saw Cynthia leave on holidays frustrated with Lennon whose failure to communicate while living in the same house.

The house had 17 rooms and a massive modern kitchen and lessons were required by the owners before they could use the kitchen.

The tickeket to ride is what John provides for Cynthia and Julian. He's the one that keeps them in the life they are accustomed too and if he wants to sit in the un room off his head he'll do it! And she is frustrated that John has become isolated and wants him to change and by leaving is threatening to destroy what they have.

Although John admits to multiple adultery with groupies later on he always tells his wife she's the one he loves! So to think of her leaving him would upset him.

And he can't understand why she is so demanding of him when he provides such a good life and that stresses him and she should be providing him with a simple life and less stress.

'I don't know why she's riding so high
'She ought to think-twice
She ought to do right by me
Before she gets to saying goodbye
She ought to think-twice
She ought to do right by me'

I think I'm gonna be sad
I think it's today, yeah
The girl that's driving me mad
Is going away

She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
But she don't care

She said that living with me
Is bringing her down, yeah
She would never be free
When I was around

She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
But she don't care

I don't know why she's riding so high
She ought to think-twice
She ought to do right by me
Before she gets to saying goodbye
She ought to think-twice
She ought to do right by me

I think I'm gonna be sad
I think it's today, yeah

The girl that's driving me mad
Is going away, yeah, oh

She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
But she don't care

I don't know why she's riding so high
She ought to think twice
She ought to do right by me

Before she gets to saying goodbye
She ought to think twice
She ought to do right by me

She said that living with me
Was bringing her down, yeah
She would never be free
When I was around

Ah, she's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
But she don't care

My baby don't care
My baby don't care
My baby don't care
My baby don't care
My baby don't care
My baby don't care

Led Zeppelin – Kashmir Lyrics 5 years ago
- Kashmir is the disputed land between Pakistan, China but under the control of the Indians. When this song was written in 1973, Native Americans would have still been referred to as Indians. Their Native lands were disputed as colonisation of the U.S. continued Westwood!

Led Zeppelin
Songwriters: John Bonham, Robert Anthony Plant, James Patrick (Jimmy) Page
- The song is a journey through a Native American custom using an elixir known as Peyote to find enlightenment.

Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face
- Paying tribute to the sun. A sun god who with the use of custom elixirs takes you on a spiritual journey of enlightenment. For many a path to future enlightenment.
And stars fill my dream
- The night is when the tribal events actually happen, usually around a campfire.
I'm a traveler of both time and space
- Although Native Americans know of only one existence he has traveled and seen and experienced the modern world.
To be where I have been
- He's traveled the world and met a lot of different people.
To sit with elders of the gentle race
- But has been welcome into tribal customs with elders that speak of peace and nature and being at one with yourself spiritually.
This world has seldom seen
- He's allowed to participate in the use of peyote, used in rituals such as a prayer for rain or fertility by native Americans and Mexican Indians.
They talk of days for which they sit and wait
- They tell stories hoping for better days to come and that their trip through enlightenment might give them some indication of the path to take.
All will be revealed
- The process usually plays out over 3 days.

Talk in song from tongues of lilting grace
- Lilting often accompanied dancing. Features such as rhythm and tone dominate in lilting. The lyrics thus are often meaningless or nonsensical.
Sounds caress my ear
- Chanting and drums beating would be loud.
And not a word I heard could I relate
- Those he sat near spoke in the native tongue to which he could not understand?
The story was quite clear
- But the movements of the tribal dancers were easy enough to follow.

Oh, baby, I been blind
- He's seen the plight of the Native American people.
Oh, yeah, mama, there ain't no denyin'
- He'd never even considered their heritage and what had become of it.
Oh, ooh yes, I been blind
- He awakens from the modern world that he lives in and takes for granted.
Mama, mama, ain't no denyin', no denyin'
- As he's seen the tragedy that the native American people have suffered.

All I see turns to brown
- When in his own dream the native lands are destroyed by colonisation.
As the sun burns the ground
- They follow the sun god through their journey.
And my eyes fill with sand
- Sand in a person's eyes symbolises dreaming or being asleep.
As I scan this wasted land
- He looks for a pathway out of the baron land he is currently in.
Try to find, try to find the way I feel
- He needs to find direction through his journey by the way he feels.

Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace
- They through time brought on the plight of the Native Americans and with it their destruction.
Like thoughts inside a dream
- Just like he is seeing in his dream or journey.
Leave the path that led me to that place
- The modern world takes over everything and he's a part of that world.
Yellow desert stream
- a baron, dusty, sandy like terrain. Could humankind continue to destroy the homelands of the many?
Like Shangri-la beneath the summer moon
- Utopia of his own can still be found when he returned he will see if his future vision has changed. Peyote flowers March, April, May, under a northern hemisphere summer moon.
I will return again
- He wants to return to re-experience the custom and see if his outlook has changed?
As the dust that floats finds you
- Peyote picked and crushed into dust during June after a ritual ceremony in finding the clouds that do not exist but in one's own mine.
We're moving through Kashmir
- Disputed Indian lands in India and therefore a metaphor for moving through disputed Native American lands that were taken from them.

Oh, father of the four winds fill my sails
- Peyote eaten, gives the courage to fight, to not feel hunger or thirst, and protects you from danger, and he hopes it will help him also.
Cross the sea of years
- As time moves along and he travels from place to place.
With no provision but an open face
- With nothing to eat but a clear conscious.
Along the straits of fear
- Wondering if his vision of humankind destroying the planet comes true.
Oh, when I want, when I'm on my way, yeah
- Cause he forgets about that type of environment when he's traveling the modern world.
And my feet wear my fickle way to stay
- Changing his lifestyle wouldn't be easy.

Ooh, yeah yeah, oh, yeah yeah,
But I'm down oh, yeah yeah, oh, yeah
Yeah, but I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oh, my baby
Let me take you there
Come on, oh let me take you there
- He wants you to see what he has seeen
Let me take you there

Led Zeppelin – Kashmir Lyrics 5 years ago
I disagree with everyone. Kashmir is disputed Indian territory, back in 1975, when the song was written, Native Americans were still referred to as Indians. It's obvious this is a tribal Native American ritual that uses peyote to conjure the sun god to follow a pathway to see what your future holds.

Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
-the narrator paints a scene of the sun beating down which are stars to fill a dream.
- A sun god who with the use of custom elixirs takes you on a spiritual journey of enlightenment. For many a path to future enlightenment.
- Say peyote, used in rituals as a prayer for rain and fertility by native Americans and Mexican Indians. .
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
- willing to try different cultures ways and ideals to finding spiritual clarity of the human experience
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
- Welcome into the tribe and shown their customary ritual.
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed
- They listen to native folklore stories telling times before US expansion for land took them westward and taking the Native American culture.
-This process takes up to and usually 3 days when ritually celebrated by Native American tribes.
Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, whose sounds caress my ear
But not a word I heard could I relate, the story was quite clear
- and as performed as it had for many years in their native culture custom and language they can not understand the words but the story was easy enough to follow through dance and song and movement!
Oh, oh.
Oh, baby, I been blind
Oh, yeah, mama, there ain't no denyin'
Oh, ooh yes, I been blind
Mama, mama, ain't no denyin', no denyin'
- history doesn't share the empathy for what the native American's endured
All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land
Trying to find, trying to find where I've been.
- in his vision he sees nothing but a baron place for himself realising that this culture had been destroyed by others and wonders will other cultures (those that worship the earth as our god and provider of everything we need to live) in turn be destroyed before we're finished ...
- Sands of time he recalls memories as to what leads him to that place and the reality of what has happened ... being part of the storm (society/government) that has also left this area baron to native people once abundant and plentiful.
Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream
- what brought him to this realization is conflicting just as the pilot of the storm that is his life is also unclear, what is there one day can be gone the next,
Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream
- narrator hates to think that society is the scorcher of the earth, but his storm allowed him the opportunity to meet tribal elders and experience different customs to understand but believes we need to learn from the mistakes of the past as not to leave this world unfertile and drought-stricken.
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin' through Kashmir.
- Utopia of his own can still be found when he returned he will see if his future vision has changed. Peyote flowers March, April, May, and picked and crushed into dust during June after a ritual ceremony in finding the clouds that do not exist but in one's own mine!.
- Summer moon in the northern hemisphere.
- Kashmir - disputed Indian land in India and a term for Native Americans around the time of the song lyrics being written hence the reference.
Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face, along the straits of fear
- When only eaten as a food gives the courage to fight, to not feel hunger or thirst & protect you from danger.
Ohh.
When I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way, you stay-yeah
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, when I'm down...
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, well I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oooh, my baby, let me take you there
Let me take you there. Let me take you there
