@[manikay:34745] This comment really made me understand the lyrics much better. After reading this, I came up with an alternative interpretation of the third stanza. After picking through the weeds of violence and materialism for capital gains at the expense of others in the first stanza, the boy later on discovers that money did not get him what he wanted (the coin was still "crammed in his jeans" because he couldn't buy what he needed to be happy). All of this is pretty much the same as what manikay summarized so far, but this is where my interpretation differs: His wish was to die (after realizing his life was meaningless), and he tossed himself into the sea to achieve this. Because christians believe suicide makes you go to hell, this is what is meant by "walking to a town that all of us burn". This also implies that humanity in general deserves to burn in hell and why God abandoned us to "circle the world" |
