The title of the song is simply a play-on-words, Miss Fortune is the personification of misfortune. To elaborate, if we pay attention to the key parts of the lyrics or rather story being told we can see why she is misfortune, "Deep in her fear At the heel of misfortune She's got my name, she's got my number As I pass her on the stairs," The main character is about to be pushed down a flight of stairs, pushed because if we recall at the beginning of the song, our character states "someone, somewhere Sends a lover (our character) to the killing I am here and she is willing To show me that she's there (our character is aware that they have been set up, and misfortune is there to strike). Next, we have "She hears the call, stands to fall And now she's on her way," (The character thus experiences misfortune and is in the process of being pushed down the stairs). To explain why our character repeats "here she comes again," we can say that they survived the fall but are then pursued by the killer or killers afterward, and now experiences misfortune at random at the hands of the killer or killers, that's why misfortune is referred to as being "a mover", and "moves in and out of time." So we can say that misfortune manifests as the killer or killers. Next we have "She hears the call, stands to fall And now she's on her way," (The character thus experiences misfortune and is in the process of being pushed down the stairs). To explain why our character repeats "here she comes again," we can say that they survived the fall but are then pursued by the killer or killers afterwards, and now experiences misfortune at random at the hands of the killer or killers, that's why misfortune is referred to as being "a mover", and "moves in and out of time." |
