He obviously wants her, and she just as obviously is fending off his advances. But I'm getting a different meaning than that of most. So does this make sense?... "Her" is not a person, but a state of being. She's saying "I understand your frustration. I've been there myself. Although she doesn't want to go further in her relationship with "He", she recognises and sympathises with him, and explains that She's "Done her time, been in his place" and has found in herself the same bitterness, loneliness, and thwarted longing. |
