This is one of the most complex song I have ever listed to, even for Tracy's standard. I do believe Tracy's style is to 'point at things', without asking questions directly, proposing or blaming directly, although I am sure she could do that with no difficulties every time; however, helping people become aware and then make their decisions and opinions is what she usually does with most of her stories. Surprisingly, I do think 'Broken' is one of the exception, if you listen carefully you imaging her speaking looking to the listener right in the eye. She keeps saying 'you', 'you', 'you'... which is very uncommon for her songs. Whenever I listen to 'Broken' I wonder why she had an approach that is so opposed to most of her songs. I feel like she is perplexed at how we live in the present and still are able to be ok with ourselves, together with 'hard wired' they describe total social/personal devastation, just a bit more direct approach |

@[Nick_C:34477] Hi Nick, I like your comment and I wanted to share ideas about her not being direct enough, especially when it is about about something so fundamental as life, in the planet. I believe Tracy's style is to 'point at things', without asking questions directly, proposing or blaming directly. I am sure she could do that with no difficulties; however, helping people become aware and then make their decisions and opinions is what she usually does with most of her stories. I do think there are exception, like 'Broken', if you listen to that one she is speaking looking to the listener right in the eye. Whenever I listen to that on I do wonder why she was different with this one as opposed to most of her songs. I feel like she is perplexed at how we live in the present and still are able to be ok with ourselves.... my perceived positions of hers shocking to me exactly because she tries to avoid that... ok thanks and the best to you |

Once more WAR is the eye of OMD for this one. Those were the days of the Falklands/Malvinas Islands And I guess this makes a reference to how families used to get telegrams when their children would die in wars And 'even the American know' there is no need of a telegram when you are just announcing death, even God can feel powerful. In short I think it was related to war |
