I always thought this song to be about the need of being alone. The title Swamp Thing always seemed out of place but i believe it refers to how the singer is feeling, like he's a swamp thing isolated or that he wants to be isolated. He asks for everyone to leave. I also think this song can be about depression and how one can feel about it being over. "The storm comes" (meaning he is going through something difficult) "or is it just another shower" (he is asking if its the end if the bad). I also see the lyrics "Now the World is too much with me" to mean everything seems to be doing better but that he doesn't want it, he thinks it is fake and he just wants to be left alone. Thats just my ideas, this song has a lot if different meanings thought. |

I think the song is about living by your rules and not caring what others thinks. I believe the words "neat neat neat" are an apathetic response to the world. A distant who can't sympathize has distant laws, he lives his life how he chooses, even if it's difficult for others to understand him. |
