@[IrieNatural:34229] I'm sorry you wrote all that for nothing... British called girls BIRDS, like we called them CHICKS. They came to America and saw racism that didn't exist in their homeland. PAUL wrote this song, not John. hint, the singer was the writer. NO matter who wrote a song, John, or Paul, billing went to both, that was their thing. But the actual writer was the one who sings the song. Paul wrote this about Black girls in the south, in pre civil rights USA, learning to fly, to be free.

however, since you didn't know any of this, and I did, I give you credit because you came up with all that on your own. that's brilliant and deep thinking on your part.

Lots of people got it right, this is about civil rights in the USA.. but there is a bit more, based on its title.

Remember, the boys came from the UK were Blacks were not a couple years away from getting their civil rights, but already had them. THen they come to America, especially if they had a gig in the south, and blacks had to use a different water cooler, sit in different section, give up their seat to a white person on a bus... and they were said at this state for the black man/woman.

Now the title of the song, you have to remember this is the 60s... as Americans we called girls "Chicks". "Thats a hot chick". British called them "Birds". Your bird was hot last night". So literally, the song is about a Black girl, in America, striving to be free.

Beautiful song.

Sir Paul has made a sequel to this song called Jenny Wren from his LP in 2008.
