I'm pretty sure he found the riff on the guitar before writing the lyrics, and he decided to write a song that would reflect the dirtiness of the sound of the guitar. That would be Knopfler-like and to me, the song sounds a bit like it was that way. |

As a cupcake lover, I'm pretty sure the song is about some bad experience that Frank had while buying some sweets from the local bakery. I can imagine some old baker spending the night cooking delicious muffins and having to turn them in cupcakes the evening after, since he didn't sell any. The next day Frank buys all of them, and years of frustrations make the baker explode and tell his bitter-sweet (literally) story. |
