| John Frusciante – The Past Recedes Lyrics | 5 years ago |
|
I believe this song is about getting over tragedies from your past. The album was released roughly 10 years after the death of his close friend River Phoenix. Which Fruciante was blamed for by the Phoenix family. The trauma sent Fruciante into a downward spiral of depression and heavy drug use. Ultimiatly leading to him being asked to leave the Chili Peppers. I think only after working on his sobriety and rejoining the Red Hot Chili Peppers he was able to have the clarity to properly express himself. This is a beautiful song that highlights his influence on many of the RHCP songs from Californiacation and By The Way. "You're looking down at me I'd rather stay below Than have you staring up at me It's nowhere I want to go (ooh) Aye, this business of how long we try to stay alive Why to be here, you first got to die So I gave it a try And what do you know Time was so long ago" |

| @[Illogical_Toaster:33925] I would also add that there is a correctional facility in grimes county in this region between the Brazos and Navasota River. It specializes in manual labor of the farm land. So it could even be a modern story but from the point of view of an prisoner. | |
