"We were playing in the sand And you found a little band You told me you fell in love with it Hadn't gone as I planned" So, the singer is playing a band on the beach. The lady fell in love with their music and the band. She is a complete stranger and never planned on falling in love (haha see what I did their?) "When you had to bid adieu Said you'd never love anew I wondered if I could hold it and fall in love with it too." They fell in love, but for some reason, she had to leave (That's what bud adieu means if you didn't know: leaving). She promised to only love him and him only but when she left, he fell out of love, hence the "I wondered if I could hold it, and fall in love with it too." "You told me buy a pony But all I wanted was you" She called him for the first time, probably manipulating him, asking for things years later. and just by hearing her voice, he remembered the things they did and fell back. I honestly think this song is just about hopeless love. |
