"And that's a dirty fallow feeling to be the dangling ceiling" This is a callback to the song "Hold on, Hold on." "The most tenderest place in my heart is for strangers. I know it's unkind but my own blood is much too dangerous. Hanging 'round the ceiling half the time." Family is often referred to as blood. From what I recall, Case's family life growing up was rather hectic. So, in this song, she doesn't want that "ceiling" relationship that she associates with her childhood with her parents (maybe?). Thus, when a love interest says words like "forever" it brings up thoughts of committing to relationship that most likely will be frought with strife and conflict...the likes which she saw in her parents growing up. She'll be damned before she let's herself be tied to such a relationship. |
