| Wakey!Wakey! – Dance So Good Lyrics | 5 years ago |

I remember when you lost your head Sometimes I wonder how you stay so sad When you're so beautiful I remember every word you said How you were scared because you'd never been Somewhere so beautiful (This first verse tells me a story of a broken relationship. Perhaps the split and she has a new partner.) So tell me why we're talking when we dance so good Tell me why we're talking when we dance so good I know you can't stay, But I wish you would, I wish you would (Now... weirdly enough, dance so good is a euphemism - he doesn't mean dance, he means shag. I read this in an interview he had) Now you tell me that you're on the mend Sometimes I wonder how you don't go mad When you're so beautiful (It sounds like maybe she has split with her new partner. Is she recovering? Is she an addict? Who knows? Either way, he is confused to as how someone so beautiful can go through a wealth of problems) |

“If I could be just one thing I would be what you're craving Six foot three with steel blue eyes Sweep you off of your feet before you count to five But the truth is I am just a man Standing five foot ten doing the best I can And I've lived long enough to see You will never be craving me” Clearly a love story about a man loving a woman, but she doesn’t love him back. He identifies that he isn’t what she is after, but he is doing the best he can. “Oh whoa I watched her go After she planted her love in the top soil And from the top soil an iris bloomed It was pretty in May, but it died in June” The chorus makes me think that she has made an impact enough for him to think that they have a chance at a relationship. It started off strong in May, but in June things ended. “If I could sing the way I feel inside It'd sound happy and sad at the same damn time ‘cause when you smiled at me on that dance floor It was the prettiest mask that you ever wore” This verse makes me think that although his feelings are shattered, he still feels for the girl he lost. He reminisces of the time she smiled at him during a dance, but realised that she never really loved him, it was just a mask. |
