[A disfunctional relationship occuring due to her insecurity and his naivete.] He realizes that she isn't interested in a man that is exceptional, rather, wants a man who tries but can't help but fail. The conflict being: this man expends himself only to be admired by the woman he loves; this woman is most pleased when his 'dreams' aren't fulfilled. Why? Maybe she is threatened when he succeed... maybe she wants him to feel like he needs her... Eventually, this leads to him not trying to impress her - just trying not to fail. Then resenting her for never being able to succeed. That his naive efforts for an impossible standard were a waste, and she loses too. To express the conflict between his selfishness and humanity - in the beginning this "waste" is worse than suicide... in the end... a dissapointment for something they could have shared. |
