One of the key opening lines is missing here, which imho changes the meaning of the song greatly. The third/fourth lines should read [[ Darling yeah you sold me When you said you're holding me up, me up ]] I think this is a sad case of someone saying something deeply hurtful to their partner.. something that can't be taken back, even though they're trying to walk it back. But it's too late, the relationship is ruined in a way that can't be fixed. So it's goodbye.. but "remember that you told me" .. Definitely one of their greatest songs ever.. I agree with windfish113 it leaves me feeling cheerful, even though on the face it's a very sad song. Such an amazingly talented band. |
