In the Hero's Journey, the hero may receive the Ultimate Boon, which may need to be brought back to the Ordinary World in order to save it. In this song, I think we have Rescue from Without -- our hero has been wounded in some way and needs saved.
The Hero's Journey ends with Freedom to Live. There is no more fear of death, their destiny is fulfilled, so the Hero may truly live now (self-actualization). |

Aphonia literally means the inability to speak.
I'm not very clear where this fits into the Hero's Journey. Some versions of it have the Abyss as an opposite to the beginning of the journey, a place so foreign and inhospitable it seems unlivable for the Hero. Think Mordor from LotR.
Survival of the Abyss will permanently change the Hero, not solely for the better. Whatever else changes, they will almost assuredly have lost innocence in their trials. |

The Hero continues their journey after the Call to Adventure in "The Complexity of Light," finding a Mentor Helper, Arcaedion, to provide supernatural aid. The hero may give in to Temptation while shouldering the weight of their burden to save the world. |

The album as a whole seems to have elements of the Hero's Journey.
This song serves to highlight the Call to Adventure by a supernatural being and Refusal of the Call due to fear and insecurity while also foreshadowing that there may be no Return. |
