| My take is this song is basically a sequel to Know it All. Picking apart the judgemental elements of 90s subculture in typical joey cape poetic form. Laying bare the meaninglessness of such modes of thought by tying it all together with the inevitability of death at the end. Long live the lag | |

Isaac is a very well read person, he drops plenty of literary references in his songs, "Bukowski" even goes so far as to submit an authors defining personality traits as a comparative metaphor for Isaacs insecurities about the limits of his own behavior. I believe the title of this song is another literary reference, from Milan Kundera's book, "Life is Elsewhere". A typically, for Kundera, moving and deep novel, the book follows the life of a young boy and his adoring mother. The boy seems destined to become a great poet, forming rhymes and cute couplets from the age of 2. One day in the garden around age 5 he says to his mother, "life is like weeds". The words produce a profound effect on his mother's attitude, causing her to weep with joy at her beloved sons depth of humanity. The child becomes enamored with the effect his words can have on people and the novel is off to the races. Anyway, thats my take on the songs title! |
