Elton John – Ticking Lyrics 5 years ago
@[steeviec60:33324] - I feel very much the same, but Captain Fantastic was my last album. Rock of the Westies had some fun bits to it, but CF was my last. Sadly.

@[matt4444:33323] I agree. It seems they want to put everyone in cookie-cutters, and we know that cookie-cutters don't fit humans. And there's this old school thinking that "whatever I went through as a child is all the current children will be going through," or something. SO wrong. I'm 62. Today is FAR different from my childhood, far different from my young-adult years, too. Why do so many of my fellow old-farts not see that?

And yes - Brilliant piano (as always!).

Elton John – Daniel Lyrics 5 years ago
As a child, I protested the war in the 60s (but supported the troops - yes, there were many of us who did). I wore a POW's bracelet for years until he came home - and he did. I marched as much as my childhood would allow (local stuff, mostly), and I wrote (childish) letters. Fast forward more than half a century and little has changed. So these lyrics press on my heart just as they did when I first heard them in the early 70s. Taupin and Elton are brilliant, and especially so when combined. And quite often, haunting.

@[KatnipKat:33290] I would love to hear this in concert as well. It got me through many times in my late teens, early 20s when I contemplated suicide. Actually, many of Bernie's lyrics and Elton's music got me through those times. The list is long. And I know I'm not alone.

Elton John – High Flying Bird Lyrics 5 years ago
@[john:33289] d.106 I have heard/read over the decades that, in the UK, this was a reference to purchasing and paying later. In other words, a credit account a bit like today's world, although they didn't exist much back then. I do remember certain stores had "credit" where you'd pay a few dollars a month and a huge "extra." Just a guess on my part because... I'm old enough to remember some of this weird stuff. lol

Elton John – Have Mercy on the Criminal Lyrics 5 years ago
I feel that these lyrics are far more meaningful in this decade than before. In the U.S., we have a huge population of prisoners, and many of those are people of color serving exorbitant terms for simple infractions. And it seems we've brought back the old debtors prisons, as well. The U.S. is sliding back into the dark ages one step at a time. So, once again, I do believe Bernie Taupin, genius lyricist, wrote a song that lives beyond the 70s. And Elton brilliantly put it to music (OH what a musician!).
