Without going into the details of the lyrics and the metaphors they contain, I think it’s about finding your own meaning of life / happiness inside yourself to define your own existence. Time and life keep sifting through the proverbial hour glass. Don’t take society’s manufactured roads to “their” paradise (Avalon). The paradise (Avalon) is within you. To get there you must create the meaning of your own existence inside yourself. Placing your life on someone’s predetermined path to a paradise they created won’t bring you solace. Only when you find this paradise within yourself are you free from the thought of dying without purpose.
