Vance Joy – Emmylou Lyrics 5 years ago
I know this probably wasn't Vance Joy's intention, but this song reminds me very much of someone dear to me who committed suicide in his 20s. I stumbled upon this song just a few days after it happened and it just sounded like what I'd like to have told him if I knew what he was going through - don't be scared, I'm like you, I'm here for you, your existence helps me cope, you are loved. So painful.

Kate Nash – Skeleton Song Lyrics 5 years ago
Well maybe Nash meant to be literal, or maybe it's about an eating disorder indeed. But I like to thing of the skeleton as representative of any coping mechanism developed in childhood which the speaker is struggling to leave behind as an adult, because it embarasses her and makes her seem childish, but doesn't seem able to as it brings her comfort and has been there throughout the year. Imaginary friends is the most obvious possibility to me, but I guess it could about just any puerile source of comfort we get attached to as a child and can't seem to abandon as we grow.

Box Car Racer – Letters To God Lyrics 5 years ago
I guess it makes sense to say this song's about death, but I suppose it could generically be about a guy struck with any sort of unfair punishment or early disaster and attributing it to divine forces. To me the imagery, which is clearly Christian, resembles the biblical story of Cain, mainly with the part of the offer but also in that Cain is emblematic for contesting God. Honestly, I'd say this is a song about feeling like Cain for whatever reason, as if God - or the universe or whatever forces you believe in - were thrusting a fate on you which you hold unfair and you're unwilling to accept it.
