| ThrowDown – Raise Your Fist Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Throwdown is class, and so is this song... but a lot of miliant straightedge kids should look at this Thought Riot song and have a think about how they view their lifestyle... "Straightedge isn't the answer if the decision isn't yours". "Sign Of The Times" Poison free, now living life so pure. Tell me, have all your addictions been cured? When you mark your fist, what's going through your mind? Is this your new fix? Ensnared again, confined. Transference of one addiction to another, you haven't solved a thing. All you've done is change the game you've been playing. Different equipment, the rules are the same - the goal remains unscathed. Just looking for acceptance and the power that it brings. Push your self to higher heights - rise above the herd. Straightedge isn't the answer if the decision isn't yours. Push your self higher. Think about the life you live. Have your standards been met? Or have you rooted yourself - cemented in and set. Projection of your addiction to another; the mind is a powerful tool. Consume a symbol you've now become addicted to. Just one of the pack with a pat on the back, marked fist finger in the air. Tell me would you, tell me could you, if your friends were not there. This is my choice; I made it, I live by it. My life is my own. This is my choice; I made it, I live by it. Are you in control? |

| Death – Flesh And The Power It Holds Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I believe this song to mean that, as always in our frail form of flash and blood, we are dying as soon as we are born - "I told you once But I'll say it again When you live the flesh It's the beginning of the end" -This lyric also alludes to this theory "It builds you up One way and tears you right back down A time to begin The end of all time" Basically, we walk this earth for a short period of time, then we die. We get sucked in to the fact that our lives mean something, then it becomes clear enough that the end is all that's in store for us. That's one way of seeing it I guess, and I think that's the way Chuck was portraying life. I don't particularly believe in God myself, so I have no idea whether or not there is an afterlife - but I believe we may go on to somewhere else, all that energy in us can't be there just to evaporate. | The Rise – The Fallacy Of Retrospective Determinism Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song, while being pretty damn good, is a direct ripoff from The Shape Of Punk To Come by Refused. Great song though. | |
| Refused – New Noise Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song is one of the best rock songs in the whole history of 90's rock IMO - and it is very much a rock song. No other HxC band can touch Refused - The Rise recently (bout 2 years ago) did a very Refused-like album, Signal To Noise, without really expanding on what Refused laid down on The Shape Of Punk To Come. They just copied it. | |
| Anthrax – Metal Thrashing Mad Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This is my signature tune on www.freakfm.com, a Cork pirate metal radio station, I do a show called Metal Thrashing Mad - this sums up to me what heavy metal's all about - fun, heaviness, and headbangingly good music - Anthrax being top of the list. Metal Thrashing MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD! LmS. |

| Black Flag – TV Party Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
This song is about ignorant beer-drinking stupefied idiots who have 'nothing better to do' than turn off their minds and watch the Idiot Box and ' have a couple of brews'. They don't even go into the outside world because to them it's not real, through watching too much TV. Hank Rollins hit it right on the head here. |

| Dead Kennedys – Religious Vomit Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
This song is the stone cold TRUTH about organised religion... all organised religion. They just want your cash, and they feed you bullshit for you handing over your well-earned. They try to brainwash you, and if you accept the line of dogmatic idiocy that they give you, you won't be able to think straight and for yourself.... you'll be giving yourself over to a 'God' that doesn't exist... To quote another great band - 'Your God is non-existent, you God is nothing' - that came from Poison The Well, BTW. |

| Killswitch Engage – Vide Infra Lyrics | 23 years ago |

This song is most excellent and forthright. It puts forward the idea, which although hardly orgininal to this band, is one of the most powerful and right ideals that mankind has... to stand true, to not discrimate between either race, colour, creed, gender or sexuality. Refusing 'to be led by the majority' has become a bit of a hardcore cliche, but here it does not sound cliched or hackneyed in any way... just the truth. You can hear the righteous anger that spews forth from Jesse's lungs, and believe it to be nothing other than an absolute fact. Excellent music, excellent song, excellent band. Crying shame Jesse decided to leave when he did. |

| One Minute Silence – Food For Your Brain Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
Yap is saying he will not back down or bow out in any way to the materialistic and corrupt values of this world we live in.... instead he will go his own way and live by his rules. 'I pledge allegiance to no flag, a blood rag, on every body bag I'm not wearing a price tag, a toe tag, for anybody's rag I bow down to no man, no bigger plan, no predetermined programme Mine is my own load, my own road, my way is what I am' This song should be a guideline to all free-thinkers of this world, to live our own lives and not have other dictate to us how we should live. We should stand against the oppressive admonitions of our respective discriminative govermental powers, and not allow them to tear our own human values away from us for their own use. As Yap has said, 'Take a look at the real world'. The real world is not what the news feeds you, not what you see on TV or read about in the tabloid. Those medias hide the real truth. Be active and find out for yourself about what is really happening. |

| Landmine Spring – Maggots Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
This is class. It has a lot of influence by the American post-HC band Helmet and does not let up til the last chord. The lyrics are a bit stream-of-consciousness, but seem to be directed at someone or something (or perhaps everything) that's tried to break the lyricist's spirit. Great tune. Also check out Stoopi and JoR. Two other class British metal bands. |
