I think the first verse is something he heard his brother say to a woman once before probably indicating the writers thoughts before asking his brother where he intended to go. The songwriters brother was supposed to be visiting him but never showed up to the airport hence his brother going on to say you’re welcome with me anytime you like. I also think the whole “Terrible am I child? Even if you don’t mind.” Is also the brother asking the songwriter the question. The songwriter finally ends the song with No. A lot of sadness and guilt on the brothers side is obvious and the songwriter is pleading with him to have things how they used to be. |
