For some reason, the very first time I heard this song, I felt that the author and singer for that matter was singing to the Virgin Mary. Even now, after heaing the song many times, I get the same interpretation. I know this is likely a love song to a mere mortal, but it just speaks more to spiritual love vs. a love affair to me. A few phrases transcend the terrestrial and spiritual like many works of art do (comfort me, question all this being real, hear you sing Beneath the clear blue skies). |
