I think this might be better written as “And what’s in the blood of the Way and the Light that takes my sin Sunday morning and makes me drunk at night?” The Way and the Light means Jesus. Moreover, many Christian denominations teach that though the physical properties of the bread and wine don’t actually change when they’re transformed into the Eucharist, they are in fact in some sense the real body and blood of Christ. This isn’t a line about “debauchery”. He’s wondering at the nature of the Eucharist, that it could “take my sins Sunday morning” as the blood of Christ, yet also just be wine at other times. |
