The movie this song comes out of is a Rock Opera about a boy suffering from trauma and his healing, and this song is the pivotal scene. It's not possible to discuss this song out of context of the whole movie. Tommy has become free of what was holding him captive. He has become free of 'the deer in the headlights' syndrome, He was unconscious of all stimulus...which is called 'shock'. In his cure, he has discovered something. What has he discovered? In the line 'Messiah's pointed to the door', there's something about Messiah's message and 'the door'. The door leads to something and this is the thing (thought) that is not distinctly revealed. We know it's unbelievably simple. There's more about it in the movie scene and song which is just before this one. "No one had the guts to leave the temple", we can see the movie disregards all religion as more stuff that gets in the way of emancipation. Religion, builds itself around a seed of truth. It's own structure then obfuscates the seed of truth. This is the only distinct idea in the movie. In summary, I think the movie is born out of Townsends own personal struggles, emancipation and discovery. In interviews he has spoken of having been molested as a child, as was Tommy . Townsend was a pop culture icon...AKA..Pinball Wizard, as was Tommy. Probably all the scenes were brought out of personal experiences. |
