Yes, I agree with radiodaddy that the unfaithful servant is clearly a biblical reference, providing a certain context for the song. But that doesn't explain what's going on. Thank you Dookie19, your interpretation has a lot of merit. Every song on the brown album has a lot of merit, but to prefer Unfaithful Servant to King Harvest, Rag Mama, Dixie, Rocking Chair, Whispering Pines, and Cripple Creek is just insane. |

| I think the point of this song is simple enough: to create the "hung suspended" atmosphere of not quite rain. I don't think the lyrics are meant to congeal in a rational way -- this strikes me as a "tone poem". It's possible that the emphasis on moon and its reflection in the water suggest inward-looking and meditation -- certainly the song is observant and still. A song I love more and more as the years go by. | |
