Kings of Leon – Muchacho Lyrics 6 years ago
And of course, "those crooked eyes that know it all" as if his eyes aren't bright and pure like something ignorant to life. The drug has seen everything horrid and crooked as it has been around the worst aspects and times of a life.

Kings of Leon – Muchacho Lyrics 6 years ago
Despite it being about something else, this song helped me through one of the hardest times in my life. As I heard the lyrics I felt so connected to every line, from the first line up to "he was my favourite friend of all" I interpreted as if they were personifying a drug addiction and calling the drug his right hand partner that "takes the chain and takes the ball" (ball and chain perhaps being the hardships and heaviness of life). The drug is always perched in the corner of the scene just there to take stock and lift the burdens of the monotonous aspects of life. Even the way they describe this man, dressed in Jean on Jean like an old, wise southerner... A knowing old man who has been around for what seems like millenia, much like the concept of addiction and the need for escapism. He dresses for each occasion, he's always there lingering and ready almost always over your shoulder. As an addict would believe, he always takes them in the right direction because as addicts, we suffer Stockholm syndrome and defend our captor (cut him some slack, fox). I read quite deep into it but It really resonated with me as I was suffering the withdrawals of my heavy addiction (sober now). Regardless, this is the beauty of a great piece of art, the listener can interpret it in ways unique to their experiences in life. I love KOL.
