A song which says that if you don't conform they will call you a radical, a liberal and a criminal.
Odd that today it is the liberal who demands conformity, who label the non-conformist as fanatical & radical, even going so far as to criminalise the merest hint of non-conformity. It is those painted as liberal in the 1960s and 1970s who created today's society where non-conformity is more often than not professional, social & legally criminal.
Those once rebellious liberals have created a society which demands far far higher levels of societal vegetation than the one against which they created so much non-conformist art, music, etc |

Nothing to do with the meaning of this amazing track but Paul Weller did admit it was a last minute decision to do this track but, after hearing Papa's Got A Brand New Pigbag by the British band Pigbag, he lives it so much that felt compelled to record a track in that style. The result is a double A-aide release which includes Precious. |

I love this song for it's musicality, lyrical content, it's cadence & it's rhythm. It's vocally beautiful too.
As for it's meaning, well with no-one posting here, even after such a long time, I guess it will forever remain a mystery.
p.s. when followed by Happy Alone (by the same band) this song somehow sounds better. Try it. |

@[birthcontrolblues:41096] It\'s now 2022 and as I listened to my (massive) Spotify Playlist via my earbuds, Conduit For Sale came on for the first time. \r\nAfter about 60 seconds, I decided to get my phone out of my pocket to take a look at my Spotify because I didn\'t remember downloading a Fall song that begins like that.\r\nI was totally shocked to see that it wasn\'t the Fall but instead Pavement.\r\nSo yes, it is clear that, at least at this stage, Pavement were definitely influenced, one might even say were totally ripping-off, The Fall. |
