Emilie Autumn – Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen cover) Lyrics 6 years ago
My Mother In Law passed away from this debilitating illness and my Father passed from a different terminal illness. This was Her favorite band and song and there are a lot of eerie similiarities to the lyrics used and what I experienced first hand. Of course, no one but Freddy knows the exact meaning but this is how I always viewed. Hence the "may" used throughout:

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see

The narrator has been diagnosed with the terminal illness (AIDS/HIV) and is in disbelief and shock. His/Her life has now been affected drastically (rugged pulled out from up under the feet) and unexpectedly, liken to that of a landslide. A landslide is of course a down slope movement and can occur at any moment and may be slowly to fast. This may be related to the downward spiral of emotions brought upon by the diagnosis. There is no escape from the reality of the illness. The speaker is now telling themselves to look upward and find the silver lining. Their eyes are fully open and the gravity of the situation is now sinking in. Without the threat of death, one cannot truly appreciate life.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm just a poor boy
I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
Little high, little low
Any way the wind blows
Doesn't really matter to me
To me

The narrator may be expressing self pity and at the same time expressing not wanting to be shown empathy. This may be due to the person feeling guilty, ashamed or to blame for contracting the illness or alluding to the fact that feelings of empathy/sympathy will not change the outcome. The speaker has a laissez-faire
demeanor and "the little high/low" may be referring to the mood swings, good days/bad days, their health in general. He/She may also be referring to drug usage. Last line also seems to refer to the speaker's demeanor and overall attitude towards the illness.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away

The speaker, in their opinion, has sentenced their "lover" to a "death sentenced" due to passing the disease to them. "Put a gun against his head" may be referring to the male genitalia (we're all grown here I would hope) "pulled the trigger now he's dead" may be referring to the sexual act itself. The partner may not be aware they have contracted the disease and unaware of their upcoming prognosis. The speaker is relatively young or feels like they've only begun living. This may be because the person has just experienced love and feels reborn only to have it all taken away due to a decision that was made. They may feel like they've "thrown away" their life because of the disease.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mama
Didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on
As if nothing really matters

The narrator did not mean to cause any harm by "committing the act" of having a sexual relationship with someone affected (or they themselves may have been the affected one).
This person may be referencing to either suicide or the fact they may not survive the night.
If this should be the case, the speaker assures His/Her Mom to "carry on" as if nothing has occurred. Once again, may be sarcasm or the fact the speaker no longer cares and feels as if they no longer matter.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye, everybody
I've got to go
Got to leave you all behind and face the truth

Mama
I don't want to die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

The "day has come" for the speaker to depart from this world. Reality has set in and this scares the speaker. The next lines may be referring to the physical symptoms associated with the illness (shivers/body aching). The speaker is addressing the world, loved ones and family members alike with a final fair well. The speaker has accepted His/Her fate and Once again, a lot of these lines may be meant to sound both dramatic, sarcastic and solemn to show the ups and downs of the illness and speaker's reaction to them. He/She is not ready to die and may wish to have never been born to not only spare Him/Herself the pain but also His/Her family and friends.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This part of the song/opera I feel is the moment that the subject is succumbing to the illness and is the process of crossing over. It's almost as if this is the final plea for His/Her life and is directed at both God and Satan.

I see a little silhouette of a man
Scaramouch Scaramouch
Will you do the Fandango?
Thunderbolt and lightning
Very, very frightening me
(Galileo) Galileo
Galileo, figaro
Magnifico

The narrator may be referring to their own "silhouette" or may be in the grasp of hallucinations. "Scaramouch(e)" is referred to a fool and the speaker may be mocking themselves. "Fandango" is a dance between two people but is also defined as a foolish or useless act or thing. The speaker is entangled in a final dance with both Deities. The thunderbolt/lightning may be referring to the dramatic scene as both Good and Evil hold court over the subject's final verdict. “Galileo” was the name of Jesus Christ in the ancient Rome and “Galileo figuro magnifico”, translates as “Magnify the Galilean's image".
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me
(He's just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity)

The speaker is on trial and pleading for their life. This may be their attempt on trying to be shown mercy and have "their life spared" from this monstrosity (the disease).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Easy come, easy go, will you let me go
Bismillah!
No, we will not let you go
(Let him go!)
No, no, no, no, no, no, no

Once again the subject is pleading for His/Her life with "Bismillah". Bismallah is a phrase in Arabic meaning "In the name of Allah(the true God)"; it is the first word in the Qur'an, and also refers to the Qur'an's opening phrase. Either God or Satan are denying the request regardless of how many times the speaker asks.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, mama mia, mama mia
Mama mia, let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me
For me

"Mamma mia" literally means my/mine mom and it is an Italian expression that can convey many different emotions: surprise, fear, pain, joy, exasperation, etc. "Beelzebub", of course is another name used for Satan/Lucifer. Because the actions made by the speaker have "led to their downfall", they may feel as if the crime is so horrendous that Satan himself will not participate in the punishment. They may feel homosexuality/aids is something to be ashamed of to the point that Beelzebub wants nothing to do with the issue at hand.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye?
So you think you can love me and leave me to die?
Oh, baby
Can't do this to me, baby
Just got to get out
Just got to get right out of here

The verdict in and the "guilty party" having received their sentence has become defiant and is rebutting the the verdict. "Love me and leave me to die" may be referring to the act of love bringing on the illness and now the lover is left to die without any compassion.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters
Nothing really matters to me
Any way the wind blows

The narrator has finally succumbed to their illness and has accepted their fate.
Although the beginning of there was sarcasm when referencing this line, now it is a final farewell and an acknowledgment that the end has come. "Any way the wind blows" is no longer relevant, live or die, they have accepted the outcome.

The Fall of Man

1 What's coming through is alive.
2 What's holding up is a mirror.
3 But what's singing songs is a snake, it is,
4 Looking to turn my piss to wine.
5 They're both totally void of hate, and,
6 Killing me just the same.

1/2 Whats appearing is "alive" and has a mirroring effect
(Made in God's image)

3 The snake (Satan/Temptation) is tempting and alluring. Inviting and coaxing with flattering words and with the power of an ancient muse/siren. The temptation to learn and have wisdom and free will has become enticing

4
The snake has the ability to produce mirages and illusions. Offering to provide Eve/Adam with knowledge and the power of free-will

5
Both God and Satan are void of intentional hate and ill will. Both wish to make Adam/Eve in their image.

6 However, both Deities have condemned the two. (a)The eating of the apple provided them additional knowledge, but it also gave them the ability to conjure negative and destructive concepts such as shame and evil. (b)This act of rebellion (free thinking/free will) eventually leads to their expulsion, manual labor and pain in childbirth.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1 The snake behind me hisses,
2 What my damage could have been.
3 My blood before me begs me,
4 Open up my heart again.

1 The tempter/temptress is no longer singing a lovely melody of false, it is now a demand.
2 The narrator is presented with the "damage" of not eating of the Tree of Knowledge; bliss, ignorance, complacency, etc.
3/4 Adam's blood (rib/Eve) begs Him to also partake of the forbidden fruit. The pomegranate is the passion fruit, also called the food of love. The pomegranate is believed by many to be the true forbidden fruit, not the apple. This fruit stains that are similar to blood stains.
(Still you pray, you never stray
. Never taste of the fruit
)
(You never thought to question why/"Judith")
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

And I feel this coming over like a storm again, considerately...

1 Having been tempted the consideration (considerately) to gain additional knowledge, to think for one's self, and the overall temptation in general has led Adam/Eve to consider the possibilities and weigh the decisions (brainstorm) (As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
Drawn beyond the lines of reason
. Push the envelope, watch it bend/There is so much more
And beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities
/"Lateralus). This could be the Serpent tempting Eve or Eve tempting Adam.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 Venomous voice tempts me,
2 And drains me, bleeds me,
3 Leaves me cracked and empty,
4 Drags me down like some sweet gravity.

1 Adam's own conscience has now become the voice of temptation as He now indulges in the Fruit.
2 The Fruit has now opened Adam's eyes to the world around Him.
3 His Third Eye is no longer blind (to the "naked eye") and He is fully aware of right and wrong. He now has a sense of guilt and understanding. Adam/Eve then cover themselves in "leaves". The Union with God is "cracked and the Garden is now "empty" of luxuries.
4 Adam/Eve now experience guilt, shame, disgrace and depression (drags me down)
Adam is now doomed to till the Earth and toil the soil
The Serpent was also "cursed to the ground" to crawl
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 I am too connected to you to slip away, fade away.
2 Days away I still feel you touching me, changing me and

1. Connected by the rib (under the arm/care) the Two are inseparable. They are also forever bonded to God having been made in His Image.
2. Days after the Expulsion they are still being "touched" by their "Creators" hand and being changed into who they have now become, yet always with the ability to "change"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Considerately killing me.

The Creator still seems to be punishing the Two
Longing and lamentation over having been expelled

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Without the skin here,
Beneath the storm.
Under these tears now,
The walls came down.

From the Creator's perspective:
Without the Creation in the Garden there is now a void and a sadness. The walls that once separated God's Children from the outside world is now non existent
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once the snake is drowned and as I look in his eyes,
My fear begins to fade,
Recalling all of the times I could have cried then.
I should have cried then.

As the walls come down and as I look in your eyes,
My fear begins to fade,
Recalling all of the times I have died, and will die.
It's alright.

I don't mind.

Adam/Eve now fully understand to gain this knowledge and truly be free the Fruit had to be eaten. With knowledge comes responsibility. There is no gain without pain. Once the snake becomes a figment of the imagination it ceases to hold power and sway. They recall all the times They could have cried and did not because it was never necessary. Both Good and Evil need to exist. The mental wall, the fear, the obstacles come down. They accept They could have died and will eventually die. This is freedom. It's alright, it's inevitable. They don't mind.

2. Days after the Expulsion they are still being "touched" by their "Creators" hand and being changed into who they have now become, yet always with the ability to "change"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Considerately killing me.

The Creator still seems to be punishing the Two
Longing and lamentation over having been expelled

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Without the skin here,
Beneath the storm.
Under these tears now,
The walls came down.

From the Creator's perspective:
Without the Creation in the Garden there is now a void and a sadness. The walls that once separated God's Children from the outside world is now non existent
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once the snake is drowned and as I look in his eyes,
My fear begins to fade,
Recalling all of the times I could have cried then.
I should have cried then.

As the walls come down and as I look in your eyes,
My fear begins to fade,
Recalling all of the times I have died, and will die.
It's alright.

I don't mind.

Adam/Eve now fully understand to gain this knowledge and truly be free the Fruit had to be eaten. With knowledge comes responsibility. There is no gain without pain. Once the snake becomes a figment of the imagination it ceases to hold power and sway. They recall all the times They could have cried and did not because it was never necessary. Both Good and Evil need to exist. The mental wall, the fear, the obstacles come down. They accept They could have died and will eventually die. This is freedom. It's alright, it's inevitable. They don't mind.

(Still you pray, you never stray
. Never taste of the fruit
)

Nirvana – Heart-Shaped Box Lyrics 6 years ago
I've always been a fan of trying to decipher song lyrics as a personal opinion, never to claim any valid truth or merit. I like to see the lyrics from the pov of who the writer may be referencing as opposed to it always being about the writer. In this case, I'll write this from the pov of an unborn fetus/embryo and a cancer patient. Here's my overly analytical opinion/theory/thought:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. She eyes me like a Pisces when I am weak
2. I've been locked inside your heart-shaped box for weeks
3. I've been drawn into your magnet tar pit trap
4. I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black

1. Negative Pisces energy can be gullible, self-pitying, addictive, self-destructive,
clingy. May be referencing to the diagnosis of cancer. Cancer, as an
astrological sign) is said to be a compatible pair for Pisces.

2. Aside from the know heart shaped box given by Courtney, this may be the speaker's reference to an developing fetus. At 4 weeks, the baby's neural tube, the building block of the spine, brain, and backbone, is already formed and is the size of a "poppy seed". This image is referenced throughout the video and of course played a part in Kurt's personal life. This may also refer to the mother's uterus. A bicornuate uterus occurs when a woman has a uterus that is heart-shaped.The shape of a woman's uterus can be significant when she is trying to conceive, as well as during her pregnancy. A woman with a bicornuate uterus may find that her baby lies in an irregular position, which can affect childbirth.
The "4 weeks" may be referring to the patient diagnosed with cancer.
For most cancers, stage IV (4) is the highest and means the cancer is more advanced than in the lower stages and may be metastatic.

3. The Journey of Egg to Embryo (ie conception, ovulation, fertilization etc.)

4. The desire to be born and rid the Mother of any illness/complications that may prevent the birthing process or the fact that anything consumed by the Mother is therefore consumed by the fetus.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Hey!
Wait!
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice

Hey, before you go I've have a new concern that needs to be addressed.
May be from the pov of the patient to the doctor or to God in general. May be the child to the Mother who may be succumbing to the disease leaving said child left alone in the world (assuming the diagnosis was post birth). Forever indebted to advice that is meaningless and has no price value due to succumbing to the illness or just in general. Nice play on words, debt and priceless.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Meat-eating orchids forgive no one just yet
2. Cut myself on angel hair and baby's breath
3. Broken hymen of your Highness, I'm left black
4. Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back

1. Orchids are said to resemble the female uterus and flower is sometimes used to symbolize the female organ and likened to the fertilization/pollination process.
May be referencing to woman who use their allure and promiscuity to entice the male gender and are unforgiving (I'm not a sexist, so yeah, just theorizing)
Or may be referencing to the cancer itself not discriminating the sex of the victim.

2. May refer to the sensitivity of the patients skin and be expressing how even something as delicate as angel's hair (symbolically not the pasta) and baby's breath (both flower and figuratively) can cause harm to the skin. Angel hair is said to disintegrate/evaporate within a short time of forming. Baby's breath being a symbol of pureness, and innocence are usually used during weddings and may be used to show the contrast of life and death and in comparison to that of a baby's breath.

3. Hymen (Ancient Greek) in Hellenistic religion, is a god of marriage ceremonies
(baby's breath) and song.
Your Highness. (formal) A title of respect used to address a prince or princess.
May be a form of sarcasm. Referencing "Your Highness" as someone who is impregnated although not a Queen (or married). Or may be referring to the injection site of an IV for chemo or the injection of a drug (heroin) and therefore a clever spelling for "high-ness". Left black referencing the the dead cells/tissue (cancer) or the black tar heroin.
4. This being from the pov of the now born child/fetus. Having entered the world and been exposed to the enviroment and all its complications, wishes to return to the security of the womb. The umbilical cord that once sustained the life of the child and provided life is now a noose that can return the child home (womb/afterlife, morbid and macabre, yes I know). Pretty damn good visualization of duality and the play on words.

Yes, I know this is a reach but Kurt was very artistic and used anatomy, illness, poppies and babies throughout a lot of collages and artwork/drawings and lyrics.
Assuming you've seen the actual video you can draw your own interpretations. know that's a stretch but anyone who is familiar/well versed in Kurt's artwork, writings, know that He had a strong connection with the "Jesus Complex".
And I'll always believe that Kurt was more artistic, musically and artistically, then given credit and purposely portrayed Himself and his work as simplistic as possible to keep the listener/viewer drawn to the meaning of His work.

I like to see the lyrics from the pov of who the writer may be referencing as opposed to it always being about the writer. In this case, from the pov of Jesus/God to either person and/or Lucifer or from Lucifer to Jesus/God and/or person. I know that's a stretch but anyone who is familiar/well versed in Kurt's artwork, writings, know that He had a strong connection with the "Jesus Complex" and referenced a lot to Jesus (Heart Shape Box lyrics and video for example). Here's my overly analytical opinion/theory/thought:

1. Come as you are,
2. as you were
3. As I want you to be
4. As a friend, as a friend
5. As an known enemy

1. Come as you are presently as my adversary
2. As you were in the past as my counterpart/beloved angel with rank. As my
"Father" before "The Fall"
3. As I myself choose to see you or would like to see you
because it doesn't matter in the end. It's a perspective that is subjective and is
neither right or wrong. I will accept you as long as you make the attempt to
"come to me".
4. As a believer/follower (human and/or Lucifer)
5. As an old enemy (as an atheist or non believer/Lucifer)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.Take your time,
2.hurry up
3.The choice is yours,
4.don't be late
5Take a rest
6. as a friend,
7. as an old memoria

1. Old age, terminal/natural causes
2. Self inflicted
3. It's ultimately your decision
4. "Meeting" me are not forced/rushed, however/whenever as long as it happens
4. Final/Eternal rest (Death)
5. As a believer/follower
6. As a memory (perhaps someone who committed #2/didn't make it to "Heaven"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Memoria, memoria
Memoria, memoria

As a memory (perhaps someone who committed #2/didn't make it to "Heaven"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Come doused in mud,
2. soaked in bleach
3. As I want you to be
4. As a trend,
5. as a friend
6. As an old Memoria

1. Come as a person of color/self professed sinner (not associating the two) or
someone who deems themselves unworthy
2. Come as a person of light skin/self proclaimed saint, martyr, do gooder or holy
than thou, someone who believes they deserve to enter "Heaven" due to their
good deeds and/or belief. Once again, not associating
superiority/righteousness with any race. Normally, in movies/books light is
associated with purity/good and black with evil and bad
3. Come as I have wished you to be according to Scripture
4. (Suicide) History has shown that this method of ceasing to exist has increased
and in a sense become "popular or trendy". (Not condoning this personally)
Religious fanatics have popularized the Afterlife and incorporated entering
Heaven as the final resting place and therefore religion, in a sense, can be
though of as trendy. Many "church goers" appear only on Sundays as a means
to appear as God fearing and the other 6 days of the week, indulge in
questionable behavior
5. As a believer/follower
6. As a memory (perhaps someone who committed #2/didn't make it to "Heaven"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And I swear that I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun

Perhaps from the perspective of someone who is contemplating suicide and trying to convince God, themselves or a friend/family member that they are ok and considering the former option of self infliction. Maybe God/Lucifer sarcastically remarking that He/She/It is not a fear inducing God but an understanding Deity that holds no grudges or pressure into forcing you to believe. Same for anyone who follows the teachings of Lucifer. As if to say They are not the boogeyman if you will.

The first ridiculously long interpretation was based off the usual suicide narrative but I've also always felt there may be a different angle to the lyrics. These are through the eyes of someone suffering from cancer/terminal illness. May be a reach but I don't believe I've ever seen this interpretation. Here goes:
----------------------------------------------------------

Today is the greatest
Day I've ever known
Can't live for tomorrow
Tomorrow's much too long
I'll burn my eyes out
Before I get out

Today is the greatest day to the patient because any day could be the last day. Tomorrow is not promised and therefore to long to wait for and enjoy. This person is living for today and in the now. Uncontrollable crying due to fact that they may perish has rendered the person's eyes dry and burning. The person is both saddened by the thought of demise and the gift of knowing life to the fullest
-------------------------------------------------------------

I wanted more
Than life could ever grant me
Bored by the chore
Of saving face

This person may feel there are many things that were not accomplished in their lifetime and may regret not obtaining the status they would like to have obtained such as relationship(s), career, etc. This person may be requesting more time in general and may be tired of pretending to feel okay for the sake of other's concern empathy/pity
---------------------------------------

Today is the greatest
Day I've (N)ever known
Can't wait for tomorrow
I might not have that long
I'll tear my heart out
Before I get out

This may be sarcasm or regret. Today, once again, is the truly the greatest day to the narrator because one can never truly appreciate mortality until staring death in the face. As Marilyn Manson quotes in "The Reflecting God", 'without the threat of death there's no reason to live at all'. This person will wear their heart on their sleeve and fight bravely until unable to and succumbing. Also, this is the "greatest day NEVER know" because this day was never experienced until being diagnosed with the illness. Only someone pressured with this diagnosis knows the full aspect of how precious time can be
----------------------------------------------------

Pink ribbon scars
That never forget
I tried so hard
To cleanse these regrets
My angel wings
Were bruised and restrained
My belly stings

This may refer to the pink ribbons associated with cancer patients and the scars may allude to any scarification due to past/present surgeries that are a reminder of the "illness" and strength shown towards the battle within. The "wings given upon death" are within reach but not within grasp. This also, may be referring to the actual chemo therapy process itself, rendering the person's limbs bruised due to IV for the chemo, the dark spots that result from the pressure applied and the feeling of being restrained and immobile during the therapy. The burning sensation in the belly may refer to the abdominal pain associated with chemotherapy. The treatment causes abdominal pain/burning sensations in the abdomen and hands (wings).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to turn you on

The simple desire to feel wanted and attractive. Most cancer patients suffer hair and weight loss and may feel unattractive to the outside world. Many patients are advised to avoid "open mouth" kissing after beginning treatment to avoid passing on any chemo therapy drugs onto a health person. They are also advised to "flush twice". This may affect the person's view of their own personal self esteem. They may feel "diseased" and like they are not appealing to others.
----------------------------------------------------------------

Today is the greatest day
That I have ever really known

Today is the greatest day the speaker has ever experienced because they subjectively know the importance of life and how fleeting and fragile mortality is and can be. I, myself, was struck by a vehicle and was "coded" for 5 minutes before being resuscitated. You truly develop both a detachment towards materialistic things (hence the sarcasm?) and see life completely different. It becomes a gift. The speaker seems to go from sarcasm/denial to acceptance and therefore gains full control of the situation and hopefully a sense of serenity and peace

This is my overly analytical take on the song. I've never met Corgan or claim to be a connoisseur of lyrics I did not write the song but I do enjoy literature, poetry and writing myself and definitely enjoy lyrics and attempting to decipher them. So please don't think my opinion holds any merit. Here goes:
----------------------------------------------

Today is the greatest
Day I've ever known
Can't live for tomorrow
Tomorrow's much too long
I'll burn my eyes out
Before I get out

The speaker has decided to end his/her existence and this brings peace and a sense of control. No more procrastinating or stalling. Either the speaker will stare open eyed into the "sun" until the deed is done and "burn the eyes out", or may be referring to the person crying until their eyes are dry and burning until the act is done.
-----------------

I wanted more
Than life could ever grant me
Bored by the chore
Of saving face

This person expected more out of life-love/relationship, career, acceptance, etc. or may be referring to not being materialistic and unable to find comfort in the things mentioned above. Severe depression/detachment and a form desensitized disassociation has led to boredom and a lack of joy for day to day interaction. Although the person has mastered the art of deception and putting others needs/emotions first, the façade and fake smile are no longer used as a defense mechanism and the speaker has lost all interest in pretending to be happy. Entertaining other's happiness has become a chore.
--------------------

Today is the greatest
Day I've (N)ever known
Can't wait for tomorrow
I might not have that long
I'll tear my heart out
Before I get out

Sarcastically and ironically a " great(est) today has never be known to exist. The speaker cannot or will not wait another day to complete the task at hand or may be referring to the fact that by tomorrow they will no longer be alive. The attempt to fight the urge to stay alive will be had before giving in or may be a reference to attempting to get attention by letting a loved one/the world know that they are planning on committing suicide or harming themselves. One last attempt to have someone notice or stop the act.
------------------------------------

Pink ribbon scars
That never forget
I tried so hard
To cleanse these regrets
My angel wings
Were bruised and restrained
My belly stings

My favorite part of the song, lyrically and melodically. This person has attempted suicide or flirted with the idea of self mutilation in the past. May be a failed attempt or scars from going "up the street and not across". The scars are both a symbol of not going through with the act as well as a shameful reminder that they never fully committed to seeing it through. Could also be a reference to the pink ribbons associated with cancer survivors which would change the entire scenario of the songs plot/meaning. Speaker has attempted to cover or hide the scars or make any amends or atonements for any wrongdoing in general or to others. This person's "wings" have been "bruised" through the battle of hardships and tribulations and/or were "restrained" by either these obstacles or purposely held back. The "belly stings" referenced has always conjured up an image of the person ingesting poison and the after effects.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to turn you on

A possible desire to be wanted
---------------------------------------------------

Today is the greatest
Today is the greatest day
Today is the greatest day
That I have ever really known

Today is the greatest day due to the fact that the speaker now knows what it is like to give up and give in. This person now realizes and appreciates life to the fullest because they now the importance and beauty of life itself.

The attempt to fight the urge to stay alive will be had before giving in or may be a reference to attempting to get attention by letting a loved one/the world know that they are planning on committing suicide or harming themselves. One last attempt to have someone notice or stop the act.

I want to turn you on

A possible desire to be wanted

Today is the greatest
Today is the greatest day
Today is the greatest day
That I have ever really known

Today is the greatest day due to the fact that the speaker now knows what it is like to give up and give in. This person now realizes and appreciates life to the fullest because they now the importance and beauty of life itself.
