| Thursday – How Long Is the Night? Lyrics | 6 months ago |

My thoughts on this song are, in a broad sense, despairing over constant tragedy. I think it's referring to the loss of a loved one and the overwhelming depression it brings, but it could be interpreted as something like war. How long is the night --> "the night" referring to the deep depression of loss or struggle. "But the day looked so bright in the photo albums that you gave me" --> there was a time before this constant despair that things were nice, and Geoff holds on to that as a means to keep going. Beautiful song. |

I have a feeling this song is about a hopeless romantic that's involved in a one night stand with someone he actually cares about, who doesn't reciprocate the feelings. The "no wood, no match, no lighter, no spark" seems to reference the lack of foundation for a relationship. At the end when he says "no heat, no touch, I'm tired" he's trying to show her lack of love or passion and his hopelessness. Just my interpretation, would love to hear more. |
