I am absolutely taken aback by black francis lyrics, absolutely mind blowing. This song could be taken three ways in my view, the first is that he is singing about his girlfriend cheating on him and he fleas off to some other part of the world where he isnt anywhere near her. The second is that this is a song about his travels to the isla de encanta (dont remember off the top sof my head what island he actually wnet to). The third runs much deeper though and I believe it may be the true meaning.
One day Frank woke up and decided he was going to start the pixies and he sent a letter to joey santiago telling him they should drop out and pursue their dream as musicians. This would make frank the bird, he was flying straight through school and collage, then he spontaniously dropped everything for a fantasy, a crashing bird on a mountain on mars. The mountain represents the struggles he faced working his way to the top of the musical charts, but theres one lyric that really stands out to me. He says "skyline on the olympus mons, I think about it sometimes" and in this I believe he is saying that as he looks from the top of the musical charts he thinks over the choice he made to drop out of collage and even though he has made his dream a reality he feels stuck there because he already climbed the mountain. |

like lantern bearer says, this song is not about bad times like the words stormy weather imply but rather about a fantastic show within an actual rainstorm. Youre probably thinking "no way the pixes are way more clever" and in a way your right. The lyrics tell you what youre listening to and if you listen closely, the drums sound like the raindrops falling and the thunder crashing, and joey santiago is making lightning bolt noises while kim blares out the rolling of the thunder and clouds. The words of this song have very little affect, its about how the song is played. |

Frank Black loved to double speak and we could all say that, however in river Euphrates he really hits it. First off it is both tiger and tygris as one referes to the real meaning of his song (which would be tygris because between tygris and euphrates is the fertile cresent) and tire in the sense that his car is out of gas and he has to ride a tire down the river to get to town.
secondly when he says stuck here out of gas he is saying he ejaculated to quickly and "out here on the gaza strip" is him eating out his lover because he couldn't get her there with an unloaded gun.

I believe that this song is based on a cult of hippies who believe that they can gain all the knowledge ever known by humans by staring at the sun all day causing them to go blind. As for the St. Nick part I think he is reffering to the fact that most of them are really old men with hobo beards like St. Nick. He also sings about hobos in here comes your man if you read the lyrics right. |

Im actually really suprised that nobody thinks this song has a deeper meaning. I think that he isn't refering to american music literally but as a metaphor to the fantasy made in american music where the boy gets the girl and whatnot. When he says "you were born too late I was born too soon but every time I look at that ugly moon it reminds me of you" I think he is saying that as a senior in high school he wanted to get with a younger girl with the first half and with the second he is portraying how american songs use things everybody can relate to (the moon) to make you feel like the song is written about you.
