Well, this may seem weird, but i saw some comment on another Muse song that the person links to Borderline Personality Disorder. This is obviously not what Matt intended the song to be about, this is just the beauty of lyrics, you can link them to your own experience. So, when someone with BPD loses their "muse" their "guiding light", the one person they could get along with, but their relationship was ruined because people with BPD have opinions that shift very fast and they just can't imagine life without this person, so when the person cuts off the relationship because of it's unstability, the person with BPD blames them, they blame themselves, they feel like their life is over (and unfortunately my research suggests about suicide as well) and they just feel so lost, they see no point, their "guiding light" is gone. So yeah. Sorry if this makes no sense, but i felt like writing something as i love these lyrics and there are so many meanings for it, linking to the novel 1984, linking to desperation, linking to the end of a relationship (romantic and friendly) , linking to the struggles of a mental health condition or personality disorders and many other themes you may be able to think of, not even of what Matt intended by writing these wonderful lyrics, but still, thats why i like lyrics, especially muse lyrics, matt has such a talent in writing lyrics. |

"Matt said on an interview that this song is about his uncle's cancer. Sadly, he passed away shortly after Simulation Theory was released." From: Supermassive Wiki I think this song is about not giving up and keeping on going, Matt wrote it for his uncle's cancer. :) |

Alright- this is an interpretation based on how I interpret it, not based on the album's political aspects, Matt Bellamy's relationships- just how I interpret it, i agree with everyones interpretation and that is the beauty in lyrics, people find their own way of interpreting it, anwayssss.... I think this song is about two people in a relationship, possibly developed from a friendship into a romantic relationship or even just a very good friendship? Person A does not want to let go because they care too much about Person B despite the fact they have hurt them so much and don't care as much about them at as much- if at all. Person A feels deeply lonely and cannot move on from this relationship, they can't understand why Person B can't see they are in so much pain. "I want to touch the other side And no one thinks they are to blame Why can't we see That when we bleed we bleed the same Person A feels so lonely, and none thinks it is their fault that Person A is suffering so badly, Person A wants Person B to see that it is human to feel pain and they could have helped each other through this, but Person B didn't want to. Person A may even feel used, they do not want to let go of the memories, of the feelings etc.. and that will be their downfall. |
