Existential Reckoning is a record that has grown on me immensely since it released. My takeaway from this song is that we forfeit our control over our lives for digital entertainment. The main theme I hear when listening to the record is that we’re bringing our own destruction through the digital world |

Out of all the tracks off the new album, the lyrics here caught my eye the most. Tool has never had the highest opinion of religion, yet the unity described here feels Christianity-derived. The “oneness” is something you find across a multitude of religions, however the concept of coming forth from one breath, and one word sounds quite biblical. At the time of writing, the album is less than a week old, and I obviously haven’t had the extensive amount of listens through the song yet. As such, my opinion may be different a couple of years from now. |
