Chapel Garden – For the First Time (Seventeen) Lyrics 6 years ago
These lyrics are pretty point blank.

"I was rocking on a Sunday morning
Recently I was reborn and I just
Couldn't focus on His majesty
'Cause I was playing for a girl down there
With hazel eyes and curly hair, an angel fair
That couldn't take her eye from me"

- The author is playing a worship service at a church/place of worship, and can't concentrate because there is a girl sitting in the audience watching him intently.

"Well I didn't know what to say
So I said it anyway, I said
I just want to know you better
She said that'd be okay
I'm glad that I showed up today
Just for you"

- The author expresses (nervously) to this woman after his performance that he wishes to get to know her better. She accepts this offer and admits that she was there specifically to watch him play.

"On another sultry Sunday morning
Sunny summer, done performing
I was told that I should meet her family
And they told me I was welcome there
My checkered past was nothing there
An answered prayer of family continuity"

- After another performance, later down the road, it's apparent that the author and this woman have become an item, and she tells the author he should meet her family. After doing so, the author finds himself feeling accepted as part of their family, something he apparently doesn't feel in his own home, hinted at in the line "An answered prayer of family continuity."

"And for the first time,
I felt as if I belonged here
It didn't feel wrong to be me
We were seventeen

It was the first time
I didn't feel lonely in my life
All that you are set me free
We were seventeen"

- The author is simply explaining how this girl made him feel at home, made him feel okay just the way he was, and seems reminiscent of the care-free days of his youth spent with this girl.
