Sweaty Machines – Blue Jeans and Bloody Tears Lyrics 6 years ago
I know it's random and isn't supposed to make any sense but I felt like it could be used as a demonstration that if you try hard enough, you can find meaning in anything.

My understanding of the song is that it is about a break up that the Sweaty Machines found difficult to go through, to the point of preparing themselves to kill their ex lover: indeed, we can feel their confusion, their obsession and their hatred in the lyrics, as we'll see below.

"I am lost when I'm with you
There's no hesitation in your eyes
Baby bye bye bye
Oh bye bye bye"

This verse illustrates the feeling you have when your loved one told you they want to break up, but still remains in touch, and you're desperately looking for some demonstration of affection, some sign that they changed their mind or still love you, refusing to accept the end of your romance; until you realize that there truly is no hesitation in their eyes, no second thought processing; until you then resign yourself to the separation.

"Baby by myself the stain
Grows more obvious
In this pain of the bird who's flying
Over roses of sadness"

This passage illustrates the sadness and loneliness that the Sweaty Machines go through: they're trying to get over it, but are still frail and get sort of caught up in the trap of depression, which then spreads in their hearts.

"Baby summer's gone
It's gone for the both of us"

Summer refers to the peak of their romance, that has now ended.

"And tears will always have wet eyes
I'll cry but I'll survive
On a mission
I will let you go forever"

In this verse, the Sweaty Machines are taking their decision to kill their ex lover: they're on a mission, to let them go forever. Even though it will be painful for them and will make them cry, they're implying that they will get over it eventually. The tears mentionned here are the same that are described below, the "bloody" ones, which is a metaphore for drops of blood, causing fear/despair and so wet eyes for the victim.

"Blue jeans and bloody tears"

Here we can hear a depiction of what the Sweaty Machines see while killing or planning to kill their ex: in the confusion caused by the event, their brain will focus on the blue jeans that is wearing their victim, stained with blood drops running down the corpse. The sentence is repeated many times as it is a flashback of this life changing event.

"There's no life without your life in misery"
These lyrics, which will be repeated a lot in the song and especially in the end, appears to be a way to reassure themselves that they did the right thing: they "had" to put their ex into misery in order to live fully themselves.

"Don't give up on a precious summer
Rolling in the moonshine
Baby by bye-bye
Oh by bye-bye"

In this verse, the Sweaty Machines are (late) warning their ex that they shouldn't have break up with them, since what they had at that time was precious. The fact that it is a season also implies that though it would have come to an end anyway, it would also be reborn later. The following part of the verse seems to be refering to the memory of a night ride that was dear to the Sweaty Machines, trying to revive it, both to remember happy times and to make their ex feel guilty for ruining it.

"Baby let me go
So close to the holy ground
Don't break my heart - It's powerless
This magic is in spite of me
Don't keep me hanging on
Keep me hanging on
Keep me hanging on"

This last part seems to describe the haunting of the Sweaty Machines by their ex, just when they thought they could live with what they did - so close to forgiveness. They're begging them not to break them or their heart again, and try to convince them that it's useless by saying that their heart is broken already and with no power left. They then ask them to stop their teasing and just advenge themselves already, then change their mind and beg for the suspense to go on, wether because it means they won't die yet or because it keeps them suffering a pain they're familiar with, and that allows them to keep on mourning.

Gojira – The Art Of Dying Lyrics 6 years ago
I agree with most of the comments but wanted to develop my own interpretations - which are close from their predecessors. Sorry it's long, ahah.

The first verse seems to speak about spending too much time behind a screen (be it TV shows or video games), and turning into an "hybrid", half-human, half-machine, that just proceeds information without truly thinking : an "empty brain". This behaviour keeps us from other human beings ("losing contact"), and brings a state of mind where it's hard to differenciate reality from a game ("don't see anything real in the game"), and where our body is living slow, doing only the necessary ("breathing slowly, mechanical heartbeat").

The second verse seems to speak about mental health that is endangered by our social organisation (typically work), "driven by clockwork" to have "tension building constantly", until it is "just a reflex". In order not to get screwed by this harsh world, we develop suspiciousness and mistrust ("keep an eye open"), but at some point, the author is trying so hard to do so that he realizes the absurdity of it. Maybe, he could just let all this go.

The third verse seems to speak about how, when you live in denial of what truly matters (neglected emotions), you're probably going to regret it once you face death ("leading to catastrophic voyage on the other side"). The author emphasizes on how he hasn't truly lived until then, been given "so much stress and lack of confidence", and hasn't had enough thoughts about spiritual matters ("so small hope deep inside"). He repeats, as for himself, that he just let himself drown into this, refusing to let go of his crappy lifestyle, to "close his eyes" and truly breathe for a minute; and says that he will be "trying" now.

The fourth verse seems to speak about how the world can be awful, but also how this doesn't mean that life is not precious; he "cannot stomach" this reality, but decides to "continue", "after all he's been through". The "I try to keep my eyes open" seems to have a different meaning in this verse than in the first one: here, I'd say it means the author is thinking deeper, in search for answers that conciliate his new found spirituality and his previous convictions. What he finds is the idea that life might be hard, but it's all we have, until death finaly brings peace; therefore, both are "more precious than anything".

The fifth verse seems to speak about another part of his enlightment, where he realizes that not only does he not need anything from this material world to join the immaterial one ("I won't bring no material in the after life"), but also that the more possessions you have, the harder it might be to leave ("I would rather travel light"). In addition, he realizes that his behaviour was harmful to others: by our bitterness, we "kill all day" through critism and mockery, even though (or maybe because) we're all on the same level concerning spirituality, not knowing for sure what's ahead, or above, or underneath; only guessing what we're supposed to do with our lives ("but I don't know yet how to die").

The last verse seems to summerise his epiphany by the idea that life is a preparation for death, to use as "practice", "in the secret of your soul", until mastering "the art of dying": "to let all go". To let this world we know behind, and embrace the after life, we need to be at peace with life itself; then death would be nothing unknown and scary. Now for the most obscure part of the song to me: I understand the "shape" as a metaphore for his soul, that conveys the light recieved by the spiritual world ("the reflector") to brighten ours. In this comprehension, saying that it has "now forever, a life on its own" would mean that he's now conscious of its existence and importance, and gave it space to develop, so he can be ready once his time comes.

Lemme just clarify that it's not because I use the word "spirituality" that I'm trying to convince anyone of anything religious. I'm just giving my (detailed) thoughts on what this song could mean.
