Here is my interpretation of this song, i will not dissect every phrase in it and just cover the general meaning as i perceive it.Excuse my typos and or mistakes. English is not my first language. This song is about the concept of karma and the flaws that reside within it and how it affects the human mind. Karma is the idea that when someone does something wrong to YOU they will get what they deserve, or the universe will somehow take care of it.It gives us the feeling that the person who we perceived to have wronged us deserves punishment for it, and so we can excuse ourselves from being sympathetic with this person, and feel justified in taking pleasure in them getting harmed/getting what they deserve under the guise of justice. The flaw in this is that right and wrong are no absolutes and can have different values per individual, or even culture and religion or political ideology, and ofcourse personal sensitivities. But people's ideas of right and wrong may differ but most have a sense of rightiousness. And we will gladly judge and condemn someone for crossing our moral boundaries. The truth is that what makes us feel wronged and what offends us about others is often less so a violation of absolute right and wrong, but a reflection of who we ourselves are, and what our sensitivities and values are. What might cause one person to feel wronged, does not mean another will feel wronged by the same thing. We can easily get lost in feeling wronged and feeling completely selfrightious in our vengeful feelings towards the other.If you watch the videoclip that goes with the song you see a car chasing a man running away.symbolizing the selfrightiousness to have harm done to the perceived perpetrator. (this is what you get when you mess with us) When the verses "for a minute there, i lost myself" come along you will see the car slow down. Indicating a realization that one was out of touch with oneself and got lost in selfrightiousness that leads one to wish harm upon another. Written by an INFP lol |
