I feel this song is about isolation. I don’t believe the darkness the song writer refers to in verse one is depressing. He does comment on my old friend, however darkness just has a negative interpretation for the most part. It’s a song about what is real and what is fake. Darkness is real. It’s a natural astronomical occurance. Neon is natural sure, but it has been introduced at a time when this song was written as a relatively new type of visual stimulation. Most neon signs distract people. That is the purpose. The song writer fears this. This distraction. This new idea in displaying a message. Where are the realest messages?. Subway walls, tenament halls. Why? That’s where people live, feel, exist, are. That’s how they feel. It is the realest. People should listen to one another. The neon distracts them, hypnotizes them, creating silence. They are becoming dull souls who are not expressing themselves by writing songs nobody hears and talking without speaking. They are no longer control of there thoughts. Like a mosquito to a neon zap. The sign flashing out it’s warning is a reminder that this new distraction is not tangible. It can’t be touched and heard or listened to. It puts people in silence. And silence is very dangerous to humanity. |

I feel this is a song about innocence. Am I 1 or 13? It doesn’t matter, thoughts are thoughts. Innocent most definitely and not corrupted the younger you are and less vulnerable to create complication in simple thought. Used to stand where I kneel? Shouldn’t it be the other way around. You would think your thoughts would become clearer as you age but wait, I’m kneeling where I used to stand? WTF. Why did this happen? Creating a false identity to get by with different names and faces worn to achieve something. But what? Just to fall down. To hold on to everything. What is everything? Seems like nothing if it all breaks so easy. The voices in your head will never lie. They are your pure self. Some sortof ESP or higher conscience of connecting people to what they are really feeling without having to complicate it with BS. |

This song is about living. Acknowledging the mindset of death. Negativity, running, not living in the moment. Never befores? Sounds like not being open minded. Trading them in because a temporary score is all that matters when everything is going to end. Hell, why care, why try tomorrow doesn’t matter, or does it? When the score, the trade off, the sell out, to protect the now ends, the sun will surely rise the next day. What will be more important the temporary score or not living or trying the never befores. If it is the first then surely be burned away just to realize it’s just the same old scenario the next day. So squeal, hide, kick, scream, to sell out and beg relief for the score just to look back the next day and have never conceded a different perspective. |

I feel this song is about ignorance. Self admitingly ignorance. Bliss that is associated with that state of mind. Confront the daily set backs all the lows and highs. Choosing to only see his daily set backs, easily dismissing what is seen on television. Yet observed, still continues onward to fill some sort of void. and then using the escape. That state of mind allows one to be accepting of the surroundings. Not caring. The gas fills up the void. It’s satisfactory. It’s an addiction that has been longed for. There is time to finally kill now apparently yet dismissing the destruction his escape is causing. |
