I don't think this song is about anyone. Artists use metaphors to describe personal problem. Yes, the song sings about a girl, but it probably wasn't about a girl who was having problems being popular. It was probably just them singing about how they once trieed to fit in, but later learned it was better to be yourself. They just chose to represent it from a third person. Also I find it really wierd that this song got popular. First off the song is over a year old now and is just recently went on MTV. Second off, I think this song bad mouths the popular crowd for making others feel like they have to be a certain way to be accepted, but yet the popular crowd loves it. This song doesn't have a very good guitar solo in my opinion. Bleed American had a better guitar solo if oyu ask me. I don't think Jimmy Eat World really excels in guitar solos. They just know how to create more complex parts to accompany the basic riffs. |

I know this is off subject, but this is in reply to the last post. I agree, the middle is an awful song. I find it wierd that it took one whole year since the release of Bleed American until it got popular. I also find it ironic that it's popular when I think the lyrics blame the popular crowd for making people try to conform, but yet the popular crowd likes it. Anyone agree with that? |

I like it a lot too. The way this site wrote out the lyrics suck. It doesn't show how on the chorus the two vocal parts overlap. That's the part I love about the song. It reminds of Crush off Clarity. |

The song is a more personal to the singer in my opinion. It is first off talking about all the bad thinds he adapted through American society. TV tell him he needs to do this and that to be cool. The pressure to do drugs and drink to be cool. He did these things and had a problem. He eventually got rid of it, but it was a tough process. Sort of like Bleeding. You are slowly losing something and it's painful to do. That's why it's called Bleed American. He bled and rid himself of all the troubles in American society. |
