I believe that the "bucket full of phlegm" may be a reference to the four humours theory of Medieval "science": it was thought that there were four substances in the body and that having too much of one would affect your character. Phlegm was associated with calmness, stolidness or apathy. "A bucket full" suggests that he has a ton of it, so basically what he's saying is that he's apathetic as f*ck and can't be bothered to do anything - not even send a birthday card. He'd rather sit in his room and define himself by his hate for the world than be like all those other pathetic people who think that following a specific music scene is a valid substitute for a personality, but the truth may be that in reality he's not that different from them. Or not. I don't know, I really love TK's lyrics but most of the time I can't make head or tails of them. |
