Nirvana biographer Michael Azerrad said that this song was written as a rant against Kurt’s father, Donald Cobain, who wanted him to “get a real job” and not focus on music. His dad thought he was a lazy stoner kid who was grasping at straws. Kurt, obviously disagreed and needed up being one of the biggest rockstars in the world. |

According to Scott Hunter, vocalist and lyricist, who is also a friend of mine, this song is about his brother and, specifically, his frustration with not being able to share the gospel with his brother. “You won’t hear these words. No you don’t have the me.” This is far and away my favorite Poor Old Lu song. |
