| Black Veil Brides – Sweet Blasphemy Lyrics | 5 years ago |

in the most basic interpretation, the entire song is about sacrilege and the message that the god who people seem to rely heavily on and live their lives surrounded by, may not really exist. ok so I’m bored at 2am and have yet to see a breakdown of the lyrics so I’m gonna go ahead and do just that, even though I’m over 10 years late for this one. Ahem. “Through sadness you have taught us to be one with the crowd Unveil the sacred order, hymns of falling down” —in tough times, people are often told to look for god because “he has the answers and will not fail you, so long as you follow him.” But break away the facade, and you are left with lies. These hymns are to praise God’s light but no one talks about the hypocrisy and darkness (the “falling down“ could also be a reference to Lucifer who is a fallen angel and wound up becoming the devil) “You told the greatest stories, of love and bleeding crowns But to the sick and hungry, you cannot be found” —the Bible is filled with many stories that bring about greatness, stories of love, victory, hope, etc. (The bleeding crowns refers to the crown of thorns placed on Jesus’ head when he was hung on the crucifix, causing him to bleed in pain.) People talk up the idea that God will answer your prayers if you do right by him, but it seems he is nowhere to be found during times of need or trouble. Why is it that he never comes when he is needed the most? When we are praying for answers, why are we left alone in silence? Where is your god then? “We are young and we are strong Through strength in self we become Something more than they can be I raise my heart and say” —More than likely just means exactly what it says. ‘We’ refers to the ones that oppose that ideology (atheists to be more precise). Those who don’t believe in God, rather than receive their affirmation and faith from a nonexistent being who may or may not exist, instead turn to themselves for that strength. They look within their own minds and bodies for their faith, their strength. And as long as they have that power and are not blinded by lies, they have a much better grip on realism and who they are than those who rely on religion for affirmation. They know the truth and won’t blindly partake in the deceit of religion, a book, or God. “That I wont believe this lie I know there's something more inside When darkness is all you see This is our sweet blasphemy” —They won’t believe the fake facade of God’s being nor the ones who blindly follow him. They know there is something more to it than that, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. People who speak out against God’s will are viewed as profane and dark-spirited so blasphemy is the sacrilegious talk about God, and the use of the word “sweet” puts an oxymoron/bittersweet meaning to it. Kind of like a polite “f**k you” to their constant need to bring god into peoples lives. While religious people only see the opposers as dark and devilish for opposing their god, the ones who know the truth will gladly voice their “sweet blasphemy” right back at them, and see how they like it. “Silence the crooked holy, unchain the tied and bound No time for allegory, one true reigning sound Unite the lonely mourning, a simple servant now We are the only glory, hear us screaming loud” —Put an end to the lies and the ones who spread them and stop punishing those who don’t share their views. An allegory is a symbol or a metaphor, in this case a religious symbol (potentially the Bible or Christianity as a whole) and they’re saying they don’t have the time or energy to waste on it. Instead, they band together with those who feel the same way, lost and alone with no God to rely on. They proudly unite and are the ones who truly know that God is nonexistent. That’s MY take on the lyrics. Andy is an atheist, but he is a kind soul who doesn’t believe in the idea of spreading your faith/or a lack thereof onto others, so while I personally interpreted this song as saying “f**k you to Christianity,” Andy is much more chill on the subject and does not try to force his beliefs onto anyone. I think more people should be that way. Anyways, have a great day! |
