The way I am interpreting this a harness is a very restraining thing controlled usually by one person. It sounds to me like he is afraid of being in this commitment harness, where he is trapped. The next lines make me think he is a man and still wants to feel alive look at other women even flirt a little. Some of the lines don’t make sense to me. It seems like the rations line is referring to something like he is getting rations of his freedom someone must cash in I think Donna De Verona may be a famous Olympian. These lines make me think she is an amazing person but the relationship is like living in a coma, a harness. Last lines his heart is open. I kind of think he wants a relationship but doesn’t want to be trapped or harnessed. |

| I think he finally figures out what he needs to do to make the relationship work but alas they are bitter strangers so he’s pissed and he could spit on a stranger. The rest of the progression of the song says to me he will still try. I secretly hope it works for them. | |
