St. Christopher's Day is a brilliant touch to this story about travelers and a man leaving his family. Christopher is the patron saint of soldiers, surfers, and especially travelers. Or was - perhaps the Catholic Church may have found not enough evidence for his miracle. Christopher, a great and fearsome soldier, was on the shore of a river and a little Child asked Christopher to carry Him across. The Child became heavier and heavier on his shoulders as they got deeper, and revealed himself to be Christ. Christopher was later martyred. |
