Cat Stevens – Oh Very Young Lyrics 2 years ago
As a tail end boomer I was too young to actually participate in the counter culture but found the hippies and the peace movement to be aspirational. When this song came out I kind of saw it as a challenge to the hippies. It seemed to speak of naïveté but also hope and the staunch reminder that your time is limited. Kind of like a if you’re going to do it, get with it.

I had a former boss just pass away and he was at the heart of the counter culture. Even though he rose to be a VP he kept his healthy distrust of administration and tried his best to keep the faith even he realized that he had become “the man”. Yes and patches made the goodbye harder still.

Dan Fogelberg – Make Love Stay Lyrics 3 years ago
Love his music and I love that this one asks the question but doesn’t give trite answers. I do wonder though about the description of love held in the heart

“But held in the heart
It pales like the empty smile adorning
A statue with sightless eyes”

I’m a bit lost in the imagery. The empty smile belongs to the one adoring. Who is the statue with sightless eyes? How is love held in the heart like this as opposed to being

“Elusive as dreams
Barely remembered in the morning
Love like a phantom flies”

I would have thought held in the heart it would be more solid or stable.
