He isin't shutting the door on her in this case, he is accepting his love is only his fantasy about what he wants and he vows to learn how to give love, as this is what love is about... |

Part one is about a relationship between a man and a woman that went south before it could begin, the man longing for her to be present in his life, however bad timing and circumstances deliberate or otherwise her end are causing him to lose hope as reality dawns in the dark. Part two is about the children and family life they could have had, as they melted away from his imagination when he came to accept they will now never exist as a result of what she had done to cause a breakdown in the relationship. He repeats "Do you see what you have done?!" to angrily condemn her for ruining what wonderful times they could have shared and the hurt that resulted, likely because she does not realize or care about the affect of her actions on him. It was inspired by the war in Lebanon, but is not about it, a true masterpiece. |

This song is a love note from a man to a woman who's father was not emotionally present in her life as a child. As the girl grew into a woman, she had to do so boldly, longing desperately for the foundation love she never received, she experienced the worst kind of loneliness at her most vulnerable, was never demonstrated the benchmark of a quality man and ended up doing things she regrets in order to seek an emulation (through validation) of this love from douchebag men who treat her like dirt. She tried so hard to trust but in return was lied to taken advantage of and cheated by those she was subconsciously programmed to desire as her mind evolved around her pain. He tries to convince her that he is the one, however the more he try this to less she believes him. "So when you remember the ones who have lied and said that they cared and laughed as you cried, beautiful darling, don't think of me because all I ever wanted- it's in your eyes" She's not into the author enough to open up, show vulnerability and love to the man who actually does love her, instead she views him with suspicion, lacks respect and views him as weak for revealing his true feelings, when in actual fact he is only weak in her presence through love. " That's all I wanted But sometimes love can be mistaken For a crime" Her mind in denial has some traumatic wires crossed and the author of the song is someone well known to her, he knows her almost better than she does, loves her deeply and reaches out to profess his love for her, stating he is the one she seeks who will be her "father figure", rock, security and her lover. "I will be your father figure, put your tiny hand in mine, I will be your preacher teacher anything you have in mind" He is asking her to try and make it work with him,to be his other half, he will do what it takes to enable them to grow together, to heal each other, he accepts her flaws and loves her unconditionally through all of what he has witnessed. "If you are the desert,I'll be the sea, if you ever hunger, hunger for me, whatever you ask for, that's what I'll be" She replies and demands him to be genuine of heart "greet me with the eyes of a child" She continues to demand proof he is genuine through his actions "Heaven is a kiss and a smile" It's one of the most beautiful songs that is highly misunderstood... |
