UNKLE – Burn My Shadow (feat. Ian Astbury) Lyrics 3 years ago
Before I came to this page I couldn’t tell whether he was saying “I have earned my tomorrows.” \n\nIn any case it seems to be a song about condemnation/redemption. But the redemption part is confounded by the dark/very minor-toned melody. There is definitely a fugue state when the beat speeds up. And the regret is having loved someone, but he is definitely facing some serious judgment and condemnation as a main theme. \nIt makes me very sad for him— too sad. It’s as if he’s decided to end it all or someone is deciding it for him, or he is letting someone decide it for him. Hopefully there is an afterlife and that is what he is counting on as his hope, but still he’s not totally sure what’s on the other side. So he wrote a song because he needs answers, needs to know he was loved by someone, that he is not totally forsaken.\nPersonally I find it disturbing overall, esp.the accompanying music. that’s why I sought out interpretations. He seems without love at all, but still has the will to survive and he’s gonna show everyone somehow. (How??) Where is the love and how will he get it if he’s seemingly lost all hope?

@[Drahydra:40174] I like how you treat the music as a message in itself. That is the message I also got— a sort of fugue. How does “Oh how I loved you” fit in?

The Presidents of the United States of America – Lump Lyrics 4 years ago
The guy had a brain tumor and wants to blame it on a woman, because he hates women. I thought this song was stupid and annoying the first time I heard it. It sucks. Anyone who likes it is a misogynist.

Pink – Who Knew Lyrics 5 years ago
@[averystripes:35454] thank you for sharing. This is a good testament to the saying “love never dies.” I think, and this may sound strange, but I think I would really like you if I met you. I am trying to be one of those steadfast loves, myself.

Peter Murphy – Cuts You Up Lyrics 6 years ago
He is in love w.a liar and doesn’t know how to break free, bc he’s never felt more loved and is the most beautiful feeling he’s ever experienced. Yet he has become so confused by this other person’s story which seems to keep changing, and now he must lie himself as a result of agreeing to lock hearts with this person, though he himself is not a liar, by nature.

Soundgarden – Fresh Tendrils Lyrics 6 years ago
“Sits upon your tongue or naked in your eye” so glaringly obvious it’s partially about LSD, bc that is the only thing in this world that has those two locations in common, you can take it on a blotter or by eyedrops.

The “shame shame throw yourself away” part is basically saying that we are so minuscule compared to the universe, and how dare we make ourselves so big or more significant than we are(?).

The “long time comin... see to get me by/through” is saying that everybody should take lsd because until you do your eyes are closed, which brings us back to the “shame shame” part.

“Fresh tendrils,” after realizing all of this, is just obvious, as painful as it is, it causes us to grow and become better people.

It can be quite scary, and few people can achieve this enlightenment without the use of heavy hallucinogenics— that is why it has been used for millenniums by powerful spiritual leaders. Hallucinogens are very powerful and political leaders are terrified by them because they open everyone’s eyes to the truth of the big picture, that many serve the few, and that is the cornerstone of the 1%’s comfort/luxury, keeping the masses down, keeping their heads down, staying at the grind, churning out the essence for them.... Two films from the 80s that come to mind when illustrating this point are The Dark Crystal and Dune. “Essence” from the joyful commoners to keep the Skeksies young and alive; and “the sleeper must awaken”.
